Hello, I'm still very new to the Wii U Hacking scene - I have a few questions that I'm hoping can be answered.

I have a HD with all of my Wii Backups. My Wii has died and will no longer boot. In order to play Wii games, do I still need a separate 2GB SD card, a separate hard drive, etc? Or is there a way now for me to load Wii games on the same HD that I have dedicated for Wii U games now? I had previously loaded the games on the hard drive with WBFS Manager and ran them with USBLauncher.

Is there a way to not have to switch hardware out? I would love to be able to just simply play the games without having to switch back and forth.

How do I load games that aren't from WiiU helper or FunKii? Those download games from the eStore, but I have a backup in a format that I don't recognize. At the root of the folder is code, content, and meta folders. The content folder is the bulk, which contains a data folder with some .arc files, .bik files, and a .ram file. What technique do I need to investigate for this sort of backup?

    Thanks a million!

I know the answer to the last question; those files are for Loadiine.

The games that you have are in loadiine format. That's an older non prefered method. You can convert them to WUP installer format which is the current preferred method but it's much easier just to redownload them using Wii U USB Helper or FunKiiU.

You don't have to change anything on your Wii HD. You can simply plug it in (if it's already powered. Use a Y cable if it's not powered) and play your games on the vWii (if it's already hacked). You will get a nag about the HD everytime that you start your Wii U. It will want to format it (unless you use mocha).

You can play your games the old way using loadiine and even put them on the same HD as your Wii games but you will have to first launch mocha CFW to do so. Otherwise you will have to have two seperate HD's for Wii U games and vWii games becuase the Wii uses fat32 and the Wii U games use a proprietary format.

Thank you, this was very helpful. Since it's not the preferred method, I'd much rather be able to just launch them from the home screen instead of loading up Loadiine every time. That being said, this particular game is not available on Wii U USB helper or FunKiiU. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the game name or not, so I didn't. So since this is the case, how would I go about converting these games to WUP installer format?

I haven't looked into Mocha yet. So with Mocha, I'll be able to use my backups that are in Loadiine format, convert them to WUP installer format, and get them on my drive along side the rest of the games installed? And if I install Mocha, I can ALSO put Wii (vWii) games on this same Hard drive? If so, I'll start looking into what I need to do for that method as it seems like it would give the ultimate device.

    No,

Try Reading through my noob guide. It's on the main page.

You don't need Mocha if you just want to play it on the main Wii U menu. You need any sigpatched sysNAND. Mocha will let you play your games using loadiine without converting on the same drive as your Wii games (fat32)

Mocha just gives you fat32 usb support with loadiine. But who cares... it's loadiine (old method)

I would work on setting up sigpatched sysNAND and then convert your loadiine games to wup installable games.

I don't remember the name of the program. Just Google "gbatemp loadiine to wup"

So in conclusion, stop trying to share the same usb drive with Wii U and Wii. You'll be forced to use mocha and loadiine which will limit you severely

Thank you. So with this method, I would need 2 hard drives, of which I have to physically unplug one to play the other, correct? I can deal with that to not have to further install any modifications to the Wii U.

And I'm messing with NUSPacker now.

No reason to unplug anything. Leave them both plugged in. If you want to get rid of the nag to format the wii HD there is a thread on here for that

Oh! For some reason I thought I had read that they can only be in the top slot on the back. Yeah, I will have no reason to do anything else then. I already have two separate hard drives dedicated for this project.

Thank you so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it.

OK, apologies for bringing this back up, but I have a few follow up questions...

    1) You say "I would work on setting up sigpatched sysNAND and then convert your loadiine games to wup installable games." above. However, in this thread it says "You need Signature Patches (Be it Mocha, Haxchi,CHBC or Signature Patcher)" which to me says that what I've done IS a sigpatched sysNAND, is it not? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just trying to make sure I'm doing this correctly and this terminology is still semi-foreign to me.

I used NUSPacker following this guide, it installed to my USB drive just fine, but then when I go to launch it, I just get a title screen that sits forever. I let it sit for about 15 minutes last night.

    2) You say I can leave both hard drives (Wii and WiiU) connected. How would I go about powering them both and connecting them, physically? Can I use a powered USB hub? They are both portable drives with Y cables. I've read in a few guides that both Wii and WiiU hard drives need to be plugged into the top port. Without a hub, there's no way to accomplish this task.

Thanks so much for your help.

Wii U drive can be plugged into the front, it doesn't matter. Wii drive has to be plugged in the top back port though.
