Affinities are interaction between some wharacters in the game, like Goku with gohan or Neuro with Light, or gon with killua
a text appears, some translation was missing (because of context) but in the last patch evrything is translated
ah.. you mean the text that appears when they gain ally boost.

that sorting UI screenshot looks awesome. that's not inserted yet though, right? UI editing will make playing the game even easier.

It's inserted, it's a screenshot of the game running in no$gba, I knocked that UI hack up tonight, I try to do one each night

it s only adapting the text to a proper layout

because now i'm focus on UI (and i m not on holiday anymore .....)

What do you mean by "adapting the text to a proper layout?" Do there just need to be spaces added so the words fit on the lines correctly? Or does it need re-written?

Hey, geunt, the game still crashes for me whenever I go to J-Arena (black screen of doom!). This was the only mode I used to play after beating story mode, so I'm not sure what to do without it. I have a Chinese R4 with firmware 1.18, which is the latest firmware available. I patched a clean rom the same way I used to patch it (back when J-Arena worked).

Any suggestions? Every other game works fine. Every other mode in Jump! Ultimate Stars also works fine. It's just J-Arena that errors out on me.



On a side note, I scrolled through some of the translations and have decided that I need to do another run-through of all the komas. I'm not sure if I will have time to do while school is still going on, but I have plenty of time over the summer. I'll see what I can do then.

In J-Arena's Ranking Mode there are some minor errors in the descriptions.

Point Battle:
"Go get some points!!
Round for deathmatch !!"

should be Point Battle, not deathmatch. the # of rounds does NOT display in this mode. there's also an extra space right before the !!

Deathmatch
"Get Ready for deathmatch
Round 1 !!"

i think deathmatch should be capitalized to Deathmatch. there's also an extra space right before the !!

J-Symbol Match:
"Get ready for J-Symbol match
Round 1 !!"

i think J-Symbol match should be capitalized to J-Symbol Match. there's also an extra space right before the !!

Battle Royale:
"Get ready for battle royale
Round the scoreboard! !!"

battle royale should be capitalized to Battle Royale. the # of rounds does NOT display in this mode. there's also an extra ! and space right before the !!

regarding freezes during ranking mode's scrolling score screen:

i had freezing issues back in the 3/23 patch where the pnames are translated, but i played some ranking mode anyways. i saved the progress in the middle of my ranking tournament (probably around round 3 or 4), then i updated to the 3/29 patch where pnames were removed. i continued to play the same ranking mode and IT FROZE!! even though pname was removed by then.

i played through quite a lot of ranking mode with the new 5/3 patch FROM THE BEGINNING and didn't seem to have problems at all.

so i wonder if the freeze is not directly related to the pname file? but something else that the older patches had when they initialize a ranking mode?

Just wanted to add my appreciation for the translation. I'm replaying this now for my second time, and it's so much more leisurely not being tethered to my PC so I can look up objectives in the walkthrough. It's finally all there in english, I also love the fact that I can finally tell what the characters do if I add their panels.

It is freezing sometimes for me two, but I know how to handle it (jest using RTS function of my card before every battle). Oh and I have question if you (Geunt) would make me a patch with pname.bin translated beacuse I would like to know what my rang is. I hope it is not a big problem for you. Thanks in advance.

Freezes in this game are mostly due to the way the text is displayed. They are using one sprite for each letter in the text (not for each letter in the alphabet), and the ds can't alloc more than 128 sprites. Every time it tries to display one more sprite without room we have a crash. So a crash in ranking mode with ranks display was pointing strongly to a problem in pname.bin, but it's here that it's getting tricky we have to track precisely which text is faulty. The way I've done it in the past was by hand debugging in no$gba (debugger version), but sometimes I needed 4 or 5 tries before having a good debug trace. So to do it for this one, one has to go trough a high number of match each time checking for the bug... It's really so boring!

i think what i (and Guile589) was trying to get at is that...

even with pname.bin translation removed, we still experience freezes sometimes. it's rare, but still happens. which means the culprit could be something else other than pname.bin?

also i thought geunt checked character lengths for the translated pnames and they fit.

I removed this translated file for keeping stability as max as we can
i think this freeze cannot be corrected without modifying the core code of this game
or by removing all the previous typo modifications (we ll never do that !)
since deufeufeu modified the chars lenght, ranking mode was buggy due to some hard coded stuff (evryone can see that the board is all messy)


i think this part ll remains unstable....

I forgot one thing: as I've added support for one byte ascii in the font, there might be misalignement of memory inducing crash. Of course there is so much things to check before fixing it... But maybe someone has the will to do it (not me, sorry).

we know this bug since we ve translated the pirate helper
we ve try to corrected them but the variable used by the round number is very unstable !

the text : to deathmmatch and scoreboard are part of the helper text ...... and we don't know why the game use them as variable. on our first helper test, we doesn't have encounter this bug, it only appears after the helper was totally translated.
i think it s due to some HEX modification : the game points a hex valour somewhere for displaying the number that increase each rounds, but after the modification of the file, the point is no good anymore, and i think this valour is a hard coded element

evrone need to know that this part of the helper translation is the only part very unstable (due to variable), actually it s fully stable with some engrish translation, so i think i'm gonna keep it like this, because we ve already spend a lot of time on this bug, and we doesn t have found a perfect solution

And in my opinion people who are going to translate something should either go for it till the translation is finished or not begin it at all >.> ...
Since months: 0.1 >.>....
