Hello people. During the last couple of days, I've been really looking into a New 3DS and have been interested in recording 3DS footage for quite some time now so I've arrived to a conclusion: I will, most probably, be purchasing a New 3DS with a preinstalled video capture kit - http://www.3dsvideocapture.com/product/69
The Japanese version is almost 100$ cheaper, so I will go with that one if the following is possible.

What I'm planning on doing is playing and recording Pokemon Sun/Moon with it. As I don't have even the slightest knowledge of Japanese, I was planning on getting the original cartridge of the European version (or maybe even the US version if I'll be able to get my hands on it before the EUR one gets released). Now, what I am most concerned about is: Will I, with the help of a CFW, be able to

    1. Play the game without any limitations?
    2. Be able to access PokeBank and transfer pokemon from/to my other EUR region games?

Also, what are the upsides of a region change (if there are any)?

With CFW you can play games from any region but IIRC Pokemon games are region free anyway. For CFW however, you need an exploitable firmware an entry point (depending on your firmware). Once you have Homebrew access, you can transfer your files and games and everything you'd want. There's even something called PKHBANK which is the free homebrew version of Pokebank, which I personally use, and I can confirm you can totally transfer pokemon with it :)

Oh and region changing is mostly for the language of the 3ds. Seeing as you don't know Japanese (and probably aren't planning to learn it) you'd be best off with region changing to E(U) or U(SA). Please note that there are some complications around using the eshop with a region changed device.

Thanks for the reply! So, I could play a EUR version pokemon on my JPN device straight out of the box? I have an O3DS with a9lh installed so I know how to work around a CFW. Now I do understand that there's a homebrew version of PokeBank but do you now if using the original one would work too?
I think that I'll be able find my way through the icons on the JPN console haha. So there's no real benefit other than system language?

I did some more googling but I couldn't really find anything. Apparently the card will be recognised as a legit game card but it won't boot because it's out of region. So you'd still need cfw for that, or use the HBL to boot regionfour to be able to play it if you don't feel like doing all the work.
I don't know if the original pokebank works but my guess is it should. That means; you can transfer pokemon to your E/U game card in your Japanese 3ds. You still won't be able to play it straight of the box.
Well, if you region change you can access the eshop of said region with some steps. But AFAIK it's mainly the language yes.

Ohh ok. Well to be honest, I was thinking of installing a9lh onto it anyway, so it's not a big deal. So I could access the European eshop after a region change? Could you point me to a guide? The one's I've found state that the eshop becomes useless after a region change on the new 3ds.

If you want to install a9lh (Which I highly recommend) use this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-1-(Homebrew)

    If you aren't on 9.2 yet: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/9.2.0-Update

If you want to region change: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Region-Changing

Do this after you've set up A9LH.

from mentioned guide: "... New 3DS cannot access eShop after region change..."
So the region change on a new 3ds does make eshop entirely useless after all?

Can't you just use the PokeBank on your o3DS system? You'll be using cartridge versions of the game, right? I have used my Japanese imports of Y and Omega Ruby just fine on the PokeBank on my USA PokeBank system. PokeBank doesnt check regions of the carts. I have also played Pokemon in English just fine on my JPN system.
