OH! So NOW expensive video games is "problematic"? All these years journos were defending video games companies really hard for rising up their prices.

Big difference between hardware and software going up. Theoretically, digital software shouldn't be going up due to this so if it does, that's a copout. Hardware and perhephials going up 40% in the US wouldn't be surprising.

Big difference between rising costs because of labor costs and game projects being more expensive VS hardware materials costs rising because of a government rising their costs.

Basically, it's making stuff unnecessary expensive and to offset the costs, the consumers will pay more out of their pocket.

So it's a lose situation for the importers and it is especially the consumers. But it's a win for the government and your country. Why?! Because you're giving more money to it.

That's what tariffs are for, basically: Sales tax.
And the promised tax cuts that Trump promised? Well, the tariffs will offset it by a large margin.

By defending do you mean stating the obvious? Of course big budget games are gonna cost more to develop with each subsequent generation. We've reached a point where selling a million may not be enough to recoup costs, so we're stuck with microtransactions and price hikes.

Journos? what you want to say correctly are journalist right.

Professional videogamers journalist are like rainbow pinky unicorns, they dont exist and if they exist only a few from my hand are real gamers from example in my country Gus Rodrigues(rest in peace) from Club Nintendo Magazine.

Journalists videogamers in this modern age are like the shit from ign company or alyssa mercante from kotaku. Those journalist doesnt care to videogames, review it or get fun playing videogames.Only matters from them its money and do whatever if takes to any company to get their 10 score in their list.Even take a good chunk of money from blackrock company.

Ugh...

1. if you want to discuss an article, share the article. Not just the header
2. based on the image, it's talking about video game CONSOLES, not video games
3. it doesn't describe the trend as problematic, just a state of facts. No...wait...
4. it's completely speculative. "could go up" means anything can happen. Of course, without the actual article, there's no way to indicate anything (presuming the article itself uses arguments)
5. Trump made it no secret that he wants to lower taxes by having tariffs. Majority of people voted for it, so the majority is in favor of this. It's a bit early for voting regrets, isn't it?

What cost? They literally use slaves from China!

Hollywood movies also cost a lot but you don't see cinemas charging you 100 dollars for watching a movie. Also most of the "big budget" games look like Playstation 2 level trash full with glitches while low budget games from smaller companies look much more beautiful and they're actually playable. Not to mention that most of the "budget" to these games go to useless diversity hiring, marketing, ESG supervising etc while they barely spend any money to the actual game development.

Also you prove my point about people defending big corporations' bullshit.

Journos is a slang for journalists.

Video games "journalists" (in the past we were calling them "reviewers", "editors" etc) were always shit with few exceptions like GameFan. They just weren't as obvious as they are now. This is why I never felt pity when most video games magazines ended.

Oh wow, why not raise the import tax as high as 100% like in Brazil? I don't even eat out anymore because every place I ate at literately demands a crazy tip

Bit late to start paying attention now, and gaming stuff will probably be the least of our worries in the grand scheme of things, but yes, Trump has proposed as high as 200% tariffs on damn near all imported goods. He's also suggested we should look into banning certain video games.

Why are people treating a rumour as fact. The heading has COULD in it. I beleive it when it happens considering journos lie and no one reported it except the leftist journos
They're literally just telling you what will happen if he goes through with implementing the tariffs he has proposed. Could he change his mind tomorrow? Sure, but he's been touting this "brilliant" economic strategy from the beginning of his 2024 campaign. He doesn't understand how tariffs work, so the dumbass thinks he's found a cheat code.

He also already implemented tariffs in his first term, and the price of GPUs went up at least $100.

It's like you suddenly realize that most of the stuff produced that you buy are because of the cheap labor costs overseas. Do you people not understand the very financial system that the USA is built upon?!

If you don't know what is the difference between labor costs and costs caused by policies unrelated to working conditions, them there is no discussion to be had here.

I'm not even sure what is the purpose of the post. This is a "DUH" moment here. Tariffs will most likely raise prices.

You raise sales taxes, the products cost more to offset the taxes dealt to the sellers. Since companies will always seek to make profit, that difference comes out of the consumers pockets. In other words, they pay more. Economics 101

Knowing the left with TDS, any support for Trump = Death, if it is boyfriend, husband and/or father poison them. So please tell me who is pushing death over nothing? We have already see Trump and Trump supporters and voters are not the violent ones and it is Kamila Harris and the left the violent ones.

I mean hasn't someone killed their father and another killed their family as their family voted for Trump. So therefore if you follow logic or maths Trump doesn not = Death penalty.

Ouch a $100 on a GPU that costs over a $1000, plus trhe tariff is meant to hurt the chinese economy and the announcement of tariffs already affecting chinese currancy. So it is to make a blanket negative and judge your perception of a "bad guy" to everyhting he does is bad.

I judge results from actions, you know merit that is earned OH WAIT the side that supports inexperienced DEI hires to make number of diversity go up do not care about MERIT or the RESULT just immediate gratification. Please tell me you are buying Assasin Creed Shadows day 1 when it has been confirmed that more than 50% of staff have zero game making experience.

GPUs costing $1000+ was not the norm before Trump took office. Corporations know that Republicans endorse price gouging, so they take full advantage of that. I bought my 3080 used for under $500.

In which case it should've already been made obvious during his first term that the tariffs only hurt consumers. Americans did not buy fewer imported goods, from China or anywhere else. Unless you inherited millions from your parents, an extra tax on consumer electronics and appliances is not something you can just ignore.

I don't really care about whatever else is being argued about on this thread, but I am curious where you got that statistic from. I'm interested in reading more, so are you able to link the source? I tried some Googling around the topic and came up empty.

I will say from personal experience that having 50% of staff with no game making experience probably wouldn't be a hurdle creatively speaking though. A programmer is a programmer, an artist is an artist. If you have 50% of your staff knowing about the intricacies of game development and the other 50% coming from a more general outlook then frankly you've got a melding pot of skills that will undoubtedly be useful.

I am not sure what to think of Bluesky. Some people are overly positive about it, some are overly negative. It popped out of nowhere when seemingly everyone who dumped Twitter had already moved to Mastodon or similar federated services.

@IC_, not liking/doing what everyone else likes/does sort of makes me feel bad

I still don't get what the deal with Bluesky is, I heard it was supposed to be federated and possible to self-host like Mastodon as well, but somehow I haven't seen or heard anyone doing that. Yet people complain about community and moderation issues on the official Bluesky instance. I really don't get what's going on and how it's supposed to work.
