Homebrew Japanese Wii U playing US games--some work, some don't. Region issue?

Hi, I have a Japanese Wii U running Mocha. Most of the games work fine in English--Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros U work fine. Twilight Princess HD works in English after using Spiik. However, Super Mario 3D Land crashes at the splash screen regardless of region. I've also tried injecting Mario Sunshine but it crashes at the splash screen as well. Are these region compatibility issues or something else?

All of these were prepared through USB helper, with my Wii U regions set to Japanese, and US games selected.

    my first 1000 got bricked back in 2016, i still dont know how it happened though... i was just playing a game, then i had to put the PSP on sleep mode since i had to do my homework. when i came back, i've powered it on but the console literally crashed. after i powered it on again... met with the black screen
