Gaming Japanese DSi XL Console?

A guy in my town is selling a Japanese DSi XL, what are the drawbacks to this? Can I change the language? It's region free correct?

You probably cannot change the language. You can play games on a dstwo or other flashcards with no region strict.

Games without DS features are region free.

However, games dependent on the system language setting will use Japanese text/menus. Such as Sonic Colors.
