Somehow I don't think "awesome flight scenes" count as story.

Oh yeah, forgot all about that. Remembered it was the animated film from '95. Must have mixed those up.. Here I was thinking that 3D won't go into Disney motion pictures. Little mermaid in a distant (mostly water) planet, anyone? [IMG]

Avatar was a good wallpaper film. Very pretty special effects, but everything else about it was quite generic. Yes, it is Space Pocahontas.

Not sure I'd bother with a sequel. I generally like sequels if they continue a compelling story. The first movie had a kinda forgettable story that was wrapped up in the film. I just don't see a need for a sequel.

Of course, James Cameron sees major bucks as a reason for a sequel...

I read about this the other day. Apparently what i'd consider one of the bigger bits of news about Avatar was confirmation that they're giving Disney's Animal Kingdom a rather huge expansion and building an entire area based off Avatar (apparently Disney's idea to combat Universal's Harry Potter land). While i thought the movie was somewhat boring (though entertaining in a mild way), the visuals are definitely gorgeous and would really transfer rather amazingly into a well-themed land at a Disney theme park. No matter how mediocre the movie itself may have been, the world is a brilliant idea to design a theme park land around (especially by theme gods like Disney imagineers).

I would love to see a sequel that mixed the great visuals with a well written story.

Unless you can manage that, Mr. Cameron, I really don't care.
