They can't price it the same as the 3DS?

At least $275 or $300.

It sounds good, but I didn't want them killing off their own portable. (or at least beating it up a little) :/

What's with Nintendo and making everything worth 250$?
Japanese and US prices are different.

If this baby were to cost ¥25,000, I would be shocked... Considering that this is a console.

If Nintendo really wants to contest with Sony, they could launch the Wii U at $249.99, and lower the 3DS price to $229.99.

But based on looks I think the Wii U will cost $299.99

True, but if this is 250$ this would be yet another system of their's to start out at 250$.
So what's with Nintendo and the number 250?

I hope for it to be $250 actually.

So that the 3DS prices will have a far higher chance of lowering

Remember.

The Japanese prices are different than the US prices.

Hence, ¥20,000 doesn't mean $250. You can't judge like that.

If Ninty really wants competition, $250 is actually a very good price.

How much per remote though?

Apparently they won't even sell the controller as a stand alone product. It'll be bundled with the system and that's it. There might not even be multiplayer that supports several Wii U controllers.

Remember when the SNES ruled the world, the Gameboy was the only handheld worth owning and Nintendo decided they could charge $200 for the N64? (That's $270 in today's money). That didn't go too well for them did it? Now the Wii rules the world, the DS/DSi/3DS is the only handheld worth owning so I'm sure they'll do their market research a little better this time.

Yup, that's true. I'd rate the Wii U at 300-350 dollars.

It wasn't the console price, but the horrendous price the games carried because of cartridges, when compared to the CD based PS1 and Saturn.

Shame that as soon as everyone was using optical storage on consoles the game prices went up to about N64 cartridge prices anyhows though.
