Well, the system just came out and well to be honest with you, I'd like to run backups on it. Call me what you will, but its the truth. I thought i'd share some of my opinions on how to get it going. I have modded my ps2/xbox/gc/ds lite/psp and am ready to get going with the wii.

Here is a few possible ways to get unsigned code to run on the wii

Fake your PC into being the WiiConnect 24 and send malicious code to the wii

Moving a Wii savegame onto a SD card, and then hacking the savegame to run unsigned code and putting it back onto the wii and starting the game

Using the SD Card port for misc things:

Finding a JPG exploit and then moving it to a SD card and hopefully crash the Wii Image Viewer (like the tif exploit for psp)

Using the WII messageboards to send a "friend" a malicious picture that the viewer does not understand.

Finding a MOV exploit and then moving it to a SD card and hopefully crash the Quicktime Viewer

Same with MP3, find exploit and crash the system player.

Doing something with the VC game, like moving it to SD and changing it to break the VC and run code.

Having malicious gamecube saves and loading gamecube games that will execute and making the wii think the games your inserting are gc games when they are really wii backup dvds.

Waiting until the Opera browser is released and finding a exploit in the browser.

2 USB ports on the back, after some devices come out that use em they might can be used for a hack.

Well thats all I can come up with on the top of my head, I feel nintendo has left several nice big holes in the system that sooner or later someone will exploit. Feel free to comment on this.

Why don't you send me your Nintendo Wii and I'll be happy to try each and everyone of those methods. LOL seriously though, give Nintendo a few hours so they can make some profit, that way maybe we'll see a Wii 2 someday.

Yeah I would like to see wii wii in the future with more innovating feature. If people hack the hell out of wii now they might end up like the dreamcast.

The only unsigned code I want running on my Wii, is code that will let me run roms off my SD card.

    Hmm...
If you think about it, running Wii ISOs/ROMs off of the SD card is good, but also bad.
It's bad 'cause of the size of memory things, I mean, look at red steel, that's already 2GB.
    Who knows?
Nintendo might make the ISOs bigger than 4GB...
    Meh.

I just want to be able to use the Wii to play my stack of GC backups in 480p, since I couldn't get the GC component cable before they stopped making it.

Wasn't that a boot disk? I'm sure I have one of those around boxed away somewhere [IMG]

I would probably go for the usb option, bit like the USB key version of windows idea.

I agree with Leonardo let them make a profit for a bit, it's not like they are charging £425 or is it $599 for it. I think by todays standards its pretty reasonable. [IMG]

FYI they're making quite a bit of money ... the Wii costs a lot less to produce than they're charging for it [IMG].

[IMG] What the fuck is with all this "malicious" talk? Running backups does not require you to run malicious code. Besides, the system has been out 48 hours.. Why in the world would you need to run backups so soon? Enjoy your original copies for now... [IMG]

Does anyone know how the downloadable games will work for the older console systems? Do they get downloaded to the sd card or what? And is it possible to use the roms that we already have for snes etc. without having to buy them from nintendo?
