It's possible to watch dvd/movies on wiiu/vwii ?
Not yet, I've been waiting for the scene to sort that one out too
too bad for me
It will be never sorted out because another thing exists on another platform.
I wish we could play movies on there too, just have to live with using my xbone i guess
You got that from the RA thread, yes? The reasoning given by the GBATemp hivemind isn't necessarily the actual reasoning, you know. The same people also provided reasons and guarantees that a kernel/IOSU/coldboot exploit would never happen. I'm waiting for them to start doing it with boot1!
OP: I'm really busy with projects, and so are the other, three-ish people actually doing Wii U stuff. DVD support (if it's possible with the Wii U's drive) would definitely be a media player thing, when somebody gets around to that.
I guess Wiimc from Vwii mode doesn't work with the Wii U drive?
no, i tried
You can watch movies from USB/SD, but there's no way DVD movies will ever work, the drive is designed to only read encrypted Wii/Wii U discs.
There's also the option of streaming videos from a media server using the browser.
You can use WiiMC (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/WiiMC) to play DVD movie by using External USB DVD on Wii U vWii, instead of insert DVD movie disc on Wii U disc drive (since it can't read DVD).
If you have MP4 files, you can dump a game like New Super Mario Bros. or something with ddd, replace some of the MP4 files it uses for demos and watch them by loading the game with Loadiine. I did this a while ago, it's actually really cool.
if you have a white wii you can watch dvd's with wiimc

why hasn't anybody messed around with pikmin short movies, when extracted, the video files are in mp4 format, with some work i think it would be possible to run other mp4's with this on wii u.
Yeah, but, it depends what model and the serial of the number of the Wii you got. As long as is not 2010 or 2011 new Wii. If you have the Wii with D3 or less it will play DVD movies on the Wii old disc drive. If you have Wii new chip, like D3-2 or D4, it won't play DVD movies on Wii new disc drive, you have to use USB external DVD for that. It has chart so it can help you (https://www.wiidrives.com/howto).
I don't know, but I wish somebody knows, I think you can run MP4 files on WiiMC, but you need to store MP4 files on SD card and USB flash drive.
I think there is a way to have the mp4 files on a disc that is formatted correctly, its been a long time since I've messed around with the wii though, I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there was a way.
Most people have phones & tablets with apps like VLC. Not to mention PC's or TV's with USB slots that have native playback... So I can't really see anyone going out of their way to produce something for yet another device.
The wii actually does a good job playing media, phones are great and all, if you like watching movies on the smallest screen ever.
You forgot about smart watches
(Anyway, as people can guess, I'm subscribed to this thread because I'm interested in that too if a dev wants to judge the crowd's interest before trying their hand at this project...).
Yes, the smart watch, do people really feel smarter paying that much for a watch? What do you want to watch on your watch today?
didint even older wiis couldnt read dvds due to nintendo restrictions? how would a wii do that when no wii homebrew dev got dvds working on older module wiis?
