Homebrew it IS possible to play GB games in color on the 3DS

Have you tried this game in mGBA emulator? It's also a GB and GBC emulator btw.

i tried using that emulator a while ago, but it didn't seem to run very well.

some gameboy games had colour in mind when coding, knowing they'd show up in black/white for the gameboy but have a bit of something for the gameboy colour. For those that didn't, Gameboy colour applied a particular palette (not necessarily envisioned by the game creators), but you could change it with different button combinations

Emulators may work the same way, but they might have their own system for extrapolating colours
