Hacking Iso/Partition builder help

I need to know how to

1. create a proper partition. I'm using partition builder, but it doesn't include the .bin files that aren't in the sys folder. They say ticket.bin tmd.bin etc. Do I need these, or am I okay?

2. When I tried replacing my built partion with the games partition AS IS it gave me a crashing error when it ended and failed. Would compressing my partition help, or do I need to do something else?

That's it. Any help is appreciated.
