I mean... There are just a couple of >4.5 3ds left , why would you destroy them, if you could make money from them... Bricking their cartridge would be a good idea, people would get mad at r4i/3dslink and won't buy another cartridge from them... but, since they still want to play backups, they would have bought a Gateway cart, but they have just killed all the clone users 3ds. If Gateway really did this on purpose, they are really stupid...

They're losing customer base by doing this, if anything.

What makes you think people who bought an R4i/3DSLink/etc would have randomly gone out and bought a Gateway at some point in the future? Assuming their consoles were still fully functional along with their flash carts, anyway.

Any way you look at it, yeah.

R4i deserves some of the blame for not checking over the code they copied, but ultimately Gateway was relying on that in order to add in their kill code.

All this will do is drive people into MT's hands.

to bad they didn't come up with a way to block the clone cards from ever working. say for instance I had a clone card It quit due to gateways protection against cloning their launcher.dat. I figure the card is broke. I return get another and it also wont work. so I decide to switch to gateway and presto it works. just a thought.

on another note. gateway mentions that and it shows who the liars and thieves are.

Actually since <4.5 3DSes are getter rarer and rarer it will probably drive people to buy legit games or switch to a *shudder* PSP.

I forgot about the empty card, but its most likely that they buy another card.

Given that they just destroyed a number of 4.5's, they better come out with 5.1 support before any other card group.

Here's hoping that of another group comes out with 5.1 support, they add in a killcode to brick gateways. Karma demands it.

That would only effect Gateway if they stole their competitor's code. Then karma would demand it. I doubt they'd be that hypocritical though. They'd probably reverse engineering the new code and rewrite it themselves (ergo bypassing any new killcode)

Like, I dunno, new features not available on R4i/3DSLink/etc.? So far it looks like a desperate attempt to squeeze the last drops out of the potential userbase and quit because the ceiling has already been hit and GW can't progress any further.

The more 3DSes they end up bricking as a result of their code, the less people are going to not only want to use the Gateway but also the less who will be able to. There are only a limited number of 4.x 3DSes out there, so the more they destroy, the less business they will get.

How does that work when you know they'll all have the same features two weeks from when they're released on the Gateway? They're COPYING the Gateway.

In theory, if people hear that the clone cards can possibly brick their 3DS, they will less likely to buy them and more likely to buy Gateway. There could be people who already have a 3DS and are waiting to decide what card they want to buy. This is just speculation regarding the possibility that Gateway intentionally bricked the consoles (which I am not 100% convinced of). The argument that they are destroying their market by bricking the consoles doesn't make a lot of sense.

I just can't wait to see what they have to say for themselves. First they lie about releasing the fianl update in the "first early" days of the new year. Now, they go and brick people's 3ds systems. Honestly, I would have been the maddest of all customers if my system got bricked (thank god i never touched clone firmware.) It was hard enough for me to buy a 3ds and then go out and buy a gateway too. I believe that when the new update comes out the team will do either one of the two following:

1-) Just release the update on their website and act like nothing happened with no mention of any of the bricking incidents.
2-) They are going to make some bull excuse saying the "bricking" portion code they imbedded wasn't actually their doing and they will claim they were never aware of the code's existence.

    my opinion everyone.

Make it so that copying is economically unfeasible or something. Not my business, let GW think about it.
Okay, I'll put it in simple terms. Only 4.x 3DSes can use Gateway, and their number is dwindling daily. Killing them hurts GW in the long term, but since they're okay with this, they don't count on any "long term" anymore.

It's like Xzi said... anyone whose console gets bricked already has a flashcart of some kind. It's not like they are going to assume all these clone owners are just randomly going to get the urge to buy the $75 cart that was already too expensive for them along WITH the cheaper clone.

I doubt noob flashcarts buyers would know what a "Gateway" is but would recognize the name "r4" as that name has been around for a long time. Gateway is too expensive, customers with a bricked 3ds console would probably switch to a equally cheap flashcart like the 3dslink and orange - assuming these noobs dont know that r4i / orange / 3dslink are identical to one another.

Example -in the event of a customer 3ds console bricking:
R4i customers would most likely switch to Orange / 3ds link
Orange customers would most likely to switch to 3ds link / r4i
3dslink customer would most likely swtich to the r4i / orange

Customers might try out the MT-Card as it has the function of multi rom for convenience.

My thoughts on it is that anyone who is familiar enough with a flash card brand should be familiar with the risk of hardware/software modding and should know to do thorough research before using one of these products on their hardware regardless of whether or not it's a popular name. If someone is new to the scene and does no research, then I have little sympathy for them... same goes with people who have been familiar with it but assume they are bulletproof. Just my opinion but YOU SHOULD ALWAYS RESEARCH WHAT YOU ARE WORKING WITH NO MATTER WHAT!
