    Sure, that would work. But if the thing's not softmodded it would be far easier to just hit the update button. Reports of the boot2v4 update bricking fiasco were greatly exaggerated.

    thanks. just read that many people saying you could brick using official update it puts me off, but if i can use the other offline way safely i think i'll do it that way. cheers again

    I would do an official update if you haven't modded your Wii at all, as FenrirWolf stated. It would save you a lot of trouble and I think the way you stumbled upon requires some sort of softmodding (I saw .wad files). Assuming you don't have the HBC, I think you'll be fine.

    Nope. Boot1 is what determines if you can install bootmii and that can't be updated after a console has been manufactured.
