    So, at the end of the game, Link puts the Master Sword into the pedestal, where Link will take it out many years later in OoT. But then, the whole place transforms and the sword is in the middle of Faron Woods! In TP, you take the MS in the middle of the woods, not in OoT! Isn't this game supposed to be a prequel to OoT, or does TP actually take place before OoT?

    No, the OP is right. Eiji confirmed TP was after OoT in timeline.

    I really have no answer for you. Maybe they decided to switch it around? It makes a lot more sense if you put TP before OoT (Not just the Master Sword, several things seem a bit out of place).

    You people do realize that there is no timeline right. It's what people like to make up for the zelda series, but really, even though games have the same main character everytime and most of the time, the same villain, there is not a relation between them. It's like Final Fantasy, no relations to each others, the only difference is that the characters are always the same. Show how Nintendo can't really innovate and give us the same thing over and over.

    well come to think of it, at the end when (wtf was his name?) the demon king said he would come back over and over, wouldnt that mean from one game to the other it would take hundreds / thousands / billions of years? so wouldnt that mean ANY game could come after SS (besides Links Awakening/DX CAUSE HES SLEEPING)?

    There may not be a timeline for each and every Zelda game, but there is definitely a canon line of events through several Zelda games. Not made up ones either, I'm talking ones either clearly pointed out in the games, or from the producer himself.

    Yes, that is right. Ganon would be the reincarnation of Demise. Why he ended up as a giant pig is beyond me.

    thats what his name was! i had already forgot haha.
    something relating to him being sealed in SS, that he was a monster? im not sure, maybe using part of his triforce?
    ...but wait, how did the triforce get split into Link/Zelda/Ganon(Demise) ? ok, now im confused.

    Theres always been three pieces of the Triforce, even in SS. According to one of the gossips stones in OoT, it splits apart when someone with an imbalanced heart touches it, or something similar to that. I forget honestly.

    It split in OoT when Ganondorf touched it.

    Vaati too, earlier.

    What I thought of was that the Master Sword was in the woods for a long time, but then, sometime ago, the human race developed on the surface, and then they made Hyrule Castle/town around the Sealed Grounds.
    In OoT, when Link pulled the sword afraid of Ganondorf, Demise got out and incarnated on Ganondorf, they both becoming Ganon. Ganondorf was searching for the Triforce, so he, now Ganon, seeked and obtained the Triforce of Power in the Silent Realm (I guess the Silent Realm = Dark World from aLttP = Twilight Realm from TP). It was Impa who had hidden the Triforce, maybe one with the kings of the time (passed down to Zelda from OoT), one in the woods (Deku Tree? passed down to Link), one in the Silent Realm.
    Continuing, when I played TP I was delighted as how the Temple of Time was in ruins, thou TP comes a long time after OoT, since it's still Hyrule, but another town, other people, probably descendents.

    edit:
    That makes way more sense. The triforce was hidden in the silent realm, Ganon had 7 years to find it, which he did, but it divided itself into Link and Zelda (remember Demise's curse), and then everything takes place.
    Did the young Link had the triforce on his hand?

    It has been stated by multiple Nintendo officials that it's the very first Zelda game, chronologically of course

    Umm, yeah there is, you shouldn't talk about things you clearly know nothing about. I could spend a lot of time explaining it but I'll just direct you here to save time.

    That's pretty much the conclusion I came to. The part that makes it confusing is the Faron Woods bit. The temple is clearly in Faron Woods in both SS and TP, but theres absolutely no trace of it in OoT.

    i thought Faron Woods turned into Kokiri Forest?
    and the temple was pretty much swallowed up from the huge tree

    Look at it this way, by location alone.

    In A Link to the Past, which I believe was considered the prequel of prequels beforehand, but the timeline is confusing as can be, the Master Sword was in the Lost Woods in Northwestern Hyrule. The castle and kingdom were smaller then, and it is quite possible that the woods were simply renamed. Now, by OoT, the Kingdom of Hyrule has expanded greatly and where these woods once were, the Temple of Time now resides. In Twilight Princess, where the Temple of Time once was, the Faron Woods have risen.

    Basically, Hyrule has risen and fallen around the Master Sword as time has gone by.

    For an F.Y.I deal. There is a split timeline at the OoT area:

    OoT -> Twilight Princess
    Majora's Mask -> Wind Waker

    The Wind Waker timeline doesn't fit the Master Sword location as snugly as the Twilight Princess timeline does. I get the feeling that the Twilight Princess timeline is more the route they wanted anyways.

    The way I see it, Faron Woods is the original kokiri forest, and the "maze" where you get the master sword in TP is the original lost woods.
    And about the temple... Forest temple? :)

    The ruins of Temple of Time we see in TP is obviously the remains of temple of hylia in SS.

    I really really dont see how TP would fit in as a sequel to OoT.

    It follows the story of the Hero of Time still, but follows a path that doesn't lead to the world becoming one with the ocean. I suppose that is the path where Link doesn't leave Hyrule to go hunting for Navi or whatever, and stays in the land for good. Thus, the kingdom you run through is just a heavily time modified Hyrule from OoT.

    Sorry guys, got my split timeline shiz mixed up a bit: http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Split_Timeline_Theory

    Basically, it is the child timeline, and the adult timeline. The child timeline encompasses nearly everything and follows the path of when Link went back to childhood in OoT. The adult timeline is its own confusing beast. Developers and such have confirmed a split timeline though, so it is only theory in respect that we don't know the order.

    Read my above post for a clarification on the timeline split. I goofed a bit. Anyways, the Hero of Time was Link in OoT. You know, he traveled through time to kill Ganondorf and save Hyrule. Somehow, people had enough of a collection of the events to refer to him that way. That is further solidified in Wind Waker with references to the Hero of Time.
