ROM Hack Is this a safe way to transfer saves from a clean to hacked switch?

Hi all,

I have a clean switch (which cannot be patched) and a switch that I have just managed to successfully hack (yay!). Both are running up to date firmware(12), but are linked to different accounts.

I would like to transfer my save files from the clean to the hacked switch, but from what I understand, I would need to connect the hacked switch to my wifi in order to change the account and transfer. This seems like a pretty sure way to get banned.

When I hacked my switch, I created a sysnand and an emunand.

From what I understand, (even though it is launched via hektate) the sysnand is clean and would not get banned. Can I use the sysnand to swap accounts, link via wifi to my clean switch and then download the save files to the sysNand.

Then, I could create a new emunand and my data will be copied across, is that right? So the emunand would never need to go online at all.

Please let me know if a) this would work, b) if it is safe and c) if there is an easier way to do it.

Thank you so much :)

I'm pretty sure the method you're trying to use involves nintendo servers at any point? If not, and it's only local connection, you could just create a hotspot on your phone with data disabled and you can hook up booth at it.

Oh, that sounds even better, but would it matter that the accounts are not the same? I read that they need to be the same user to transfer.
That's why I was thinking of a safe method to connect to the server to change the user profile.

Can anyone clarify this point?

When you say your clean switch cannot be patched, I assume it's an early erista, so it is susceptible to the buffer overflow to inject payloads? If so, you should dump your save files from a nand dump on your "clean" switch since mounting the nand is invisible to Nintendo, and then you should simply use any homebrew save file manager like checkpoint to easily inject them. You can easily dump your save data from a nand following this guide titled "how-to-extract-savegames-from-nand-dump-for-checkpoint" on here (gbatemp).

(I cannot link the file because my account is new)

Unfortunately no, it's the opposite - a really new switch with XKW serial, which I believe can only be hacked with a mod chip, is that right? Or, can I do a nand dump, even if I can't hack it?

Re-reading your first post, as long you only entered hekate with sysmmc and never used any kind of homebrew on the sysmmc, you'll be fine connecting it to the nintendo servers.
Then just make the transfer and you can create an emummc with the new data.
The only real issue for a ban is if you ever connect with a modified emummc or sysmmc to nintendo servers.
In my case, sysmmc is uptodate and fully connected to nintendo servers, while emummc is absolutely offline.
If you're confident on your clean sysmmc, go for it.

Only way I see it is to use RCM. Idk if there is a homebrew out there which enables direct access to Sysnand.

If not, you'd need to dump your BIS-keys and the image of sysnand (rcm: hekate) to extract the save with hacdiskmount (or use it directly on the switch - unsafe). Then use Hactool (Libhac) to decrypt the save. Use a save manage like JKSV to import the save on your emummc.

Have fun!

EDIT: OP has ipatched unit. This won't work!

I don't think I can do that on my patched switch, from what I understand I don't think RCM will let me access anything.

I read through this page: https://gbatemp.net/threads/safest-...rom-a-clean-switch-to-a-hacked-switch.536619/ and it seems that people have tried to use the transfer before, but I'd rather stay as protected as possible - hence my question about the sysnand option...

It was not clear for me that you got a ipatched console. There is no save way for you then. You'd need a nand dump and BIS keys and there is no way to acquire them without CFW which would immediatly lead to a ban risk even if you only just boot the console with CFW.

Don't try RCM, it won't work.

I have a few switches, all with the same account and what I do to transfer saves from my only legit non-modified switch to my other modified switches is upload the save through cloud backed paid feature and restore it with my hacked switches. It does cost but I use online anyways without ban bc I use the unhacked switch. I also use one of my hacked switches to regularly buy eshop games with no ban ever. My hacked switches use emunand while stock one is sysnand unmodified. You could add the wanted saves user to emunand and download saves as well but either way is still paid. Non paid includes a modchip to glitch as there is no exploits public atm. Emunand switch that buys eshop games is usually on latest atmo but eshop doesn't always require the latest update so you can get away with alot. The only downside with new updates is new games with new or higher keys to decrypt for nsp backup but it's not that bad really. EDIT: Even if the switch hacked or non gets banned it's almost always a hardware ban so you don't have to worry about losing your bought games, and backing up games after buying them also helps incase your account ever does get banned you still have your paid games somewhere. EDIT2:
You know, before firmware 8.0, the only way would have been with transferring the User profile from one Switch to another but they added a way to transfer save data without going online. Be warned that it will wipe the save data from the source console but since your source console is hacked, you can just back up the save data with homebrew. Quoted from their website:

Thank you, I really appreciate you actually responding to my original question. I'm fairly confident that my sysnand is safe, I've only booted it up once and have never done any home-brew on it. In fact, it only has youtube installed, which I downloaded to check the switch wasn't banned before I even used a jig or started hacking.

In hektate, I have the option to launch either sysnand or emunand. Is that normal, and NSO can't tell its launched from hektate?
As to its 'cleanness' I've just opened the sysnand once to check it worked and I haven't done anything, not even turned on wifi. But is there a way to tell 100% that it's clean? Should I start again from scratch somehow to be safe? Thanks again for the help :)

you can check for sysnand my checking setting on atmosphere. Where it says your version it will have emu if emunand or sys if sysnand. Might be blank idk I never boot sysnand...

Thanks, I'm pretty confident in which is which, as I installed home-brew apps on emunand, but sysnand is blank. I'm not so much worried about accidentally going online in emunand as I am I being confident that my sysnand is 100% clean :)

in the hekate config file to launch atmo, you could config it to also not launch homebrew through photos applet to make sysnand never able to launch homebrew thus making sure it is harder to be banned. (Config file may be through just atmo, not hekate as hekate launches atmo but iirc you can configure it either way)

Thanks, that sounds good. I will try to set that up too!

In this situation I would probably just dumpt the saves from the emunand and install them with a save game manager to the sysnand, and then use a system transfehr or the nintendo online save game sync (later will not work with all games, like splatton 2 or animal crossing).

Also, as long as you just use homebrew, without installing any nsps or xcis, never mess with your system logs, and never cheat or mod in online games you should be save on sysnand anyway, So it should be no problem to just transfehr the save games. But don't mix sys and emunand online, since the logs will be different, so that could be detected.
I'm online with my switches without using an emunand, and which I havent booted to stock since shortly after CFWs released, so multiple years, without getting banned, all while using save managers, emulators, system modules like SysDVR, Sys-clk and tesla, and other homebrew.

As long as you have a clean sysnand, you can either make a system transfer and bring everything to the hacked switch or do what @laramie said, get online and get the saves from the cloud and bring them to the hacked switch sysmmc, then just create and emummc with all the saves you wanted.
It shouldn't bring you any risk in any case, now depends on your preferences and which unit you want to use as main or only.
But you'll need online on both switches to do as @laramie told iirc.

Alrighty--although it seems you probably have figured this out by now, but another option would be to disconnect from the internet on both switches and merely transfer the user to the hacked switch--dump the save data on the hacked switch either from nand dump (safest) or just a homebrew while offline, and then transfer the user back (since the data on the original patched switch will be deleted). Afterwords you could just reinject all the save data that you backed up on the hacked switch and you'll have officially cloned the data and worked around the transferred data being deleted.
