    .bin file is a generic extension used throughout computing and the DS is no different.
    The only truly standardised .bin file as far as the DS is concerned is the utility.bin used for download play which can be fiddled with by your chosen unpacker or more likely crystaltile2 (it supports it out of the box and more importantly can handle the compression far more easily than you going manual).

    Other than that I have seen .bin used for everything the average rom hacker would care about- sound, text, graphics and straight up game data.

    So the only way we can give you any clue s if you post what the BIN is named, where it's located, and what game it's from.

    Also open it with a hex editor and copy the first 2-3 lines (on the right, of the "text") here.
