You tried it with a game, not an R4. I don't think they designed for DS to work with that function on anything except a game.

You idiot, read what I said. I said I tried it with a game because I HAD FLASHME NOAUTOBOOT, and if you had any knowledge about the subject at all you would know that it automatically boots the flashcart in slot 1 on boot (faster than on Auto). If I still had the regular DS Firmware it would have done the same thing (booted to GBA before it booted the slot 1 while holding B).

AFAIK flashme no autoboot doesn't boot slot 1 automatically, it merely prevents the autoboot of your slot 2 card. So if your slot 1 card is booting it is because it was made to autoload (eg. R4), or your DS firmware is telling it to.

QUOTE(jwcgator @ Jun 27 2007, 01:36 PM)Actually I think I have the best solution yet:

Install Flashme v8a Noautoboot, and hold select while booting the DS!

The maker of the thread wants to prevent the R4 from loading on boot. He also has an M3 Lite in the slot 2. Holding select while booting with no auto boot will load the slot 2. If you remove the slot 2 then hold select (I just tried this) you will get 2 white screens (on an R4 + M3 Lite Perfect, and on FMv8a no autoboot, obviously)

Edit: Actually, there's a third option: don't use flashcarts. Retail DS and GBA games draw less power than flashcarts, so you get more life out of the battery.

Only slightly less power with modern Slot-1 flashcarts. Take a look at shaunj66's CycloDS Evolution review
CycloDS Evolution ReviewBattery Life Results:

Test condition:

  * Fully charged European Black Nintendo DS Lite
  * CycloDS Evolution 1.12, Japanese 1GB PNY micro SD card (FAT32)
  * New Super Mario Bros. Running Main Menu and movie looping continuously
  * Screens at max. brightness (level 4)
  * Sound at 100%

Results:

Backup ROM of New Super Mario Bros. on CycloDS Evolution = 4 hours 27 minutes
Retail New Super Mario Bros cart = 4 hours 55 minutes

My suggestion: Only have one cart in the DS at once. If I have my SuperCard Lite in slot-2, even if I'm not playing it, my battery life is reduced somewhat.

Are you sure? because it sure boots my R4 MUCH faster than it boots any game(3-4 seconds to get to the R4 Menu, and 7-8 seconds to get to anything that's game related) and it does it whether or not Manual mode or Auto mode is on.

And I just tried manual mode + R4 + GBA Game and it still booted R4 almost as soon as I powered on my DS.

Edit: Or maybe you're right? I dont know haha

9 hours of watching the New Super Mario Bros. Intro movie loop at 100% sound, waiting for it to run out of juice???

Would make me

FlashMe no autoboot doesn't boot slot 1 automatically, it just skips booting slot 2, and therefore it should really be the same as if there was no slot 2 card in the first place

@SylverReZ find me ONE community that is free of drama and politics. even video games forums (like this one) have politics section. and for some reason gamers still take consoles/brands wars seriously. even as a kid i never took the console wars bait despite being a nintendo kid.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
one of the reasons i deleted all my social media accounts, reddit account (although i was rarely using it) etc was to get away from this shit.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Vetusomaru, Sadly, not all communities like to play nice. Forums are pretty much dying despite Discord amongst other social media being available.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
i only kept my twitter accounts and only because many of the artists i like share their art only/mostly at twitter.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
lots of discord groups (even the big ones) are also dead for some reason.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Twitter is way too shittier.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
that's why i added some firefox addons to block shit like twitter trends.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Discord, on the other hand, moderation tends to not be very nice in video game communities from what I had experienced.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
as about forums, when i recently revisited some old forums i used to be regular and seeing how immature most members still are i was like "Yeap. Nothing of value has been lost.". Unfortunately it's the good, comfy forums that ended up dead or shut down, especially because of internet centralization.
