Hacking Is there any point of buying a Gateway?

With a CFW in <9.2, you can install digital games as CIA. Why do people buy a Gateway then? Is there something unique you can do with it that you can't do in a CFW like RxTools?

No, there's no real point anymore. RxTools can do everything except for the ROM menu, and I never liked the ROM menu anyways. It's much better to have all of your games right there on your home menu imo. I bought a Gateway before good Custom Firmware was a thing, and I don't use it anymore, it's gathering dust. I was hoping that cheat support would be a thing with Gateway. Now that they're working on it, it's a bit late because we already have that with NTR, so Gateway is completely obsolete in my books

It's a bit more convenient, and easier to set up. Whether that's worth the money is up to the individual.

I'm waiting for the announced cheat support, but it will probably be cracked and added into CFW anyways. I still use my Gateway 90% of the time though, because it seems much more stable for me (no notification bugs, friend list bugs, accidental sysnand updates).

If the whole process of CIA building/installation seems daunting and headache-inducing, running gateway cart/launcher alongside RxTools with FBi to switch between the MSETs isn't a bad idea. Best of both worlds on an O3DS.

RxTools hasn't supported n3ds yet, that the reason why n3ds user stick to gw

reinand does, and it is pretty much the same as rxTools except for needing cubic ninja (which gateway does also)

Fairly certain the latest official stable build of rxTools is 2.6. The 3.0 version is still in beta, and encouraging the use of test/nightly builds to noobs is just plain cruel.

ReiNand is now capable of doing all the decryption functions that made rxTools so popular? Wasn't aware of that.

RxTools 3.0 is a lot stabler and bugfree than 2.6! It has some missing features on n3ds, but they are advanced features, noobs won't need them

It being "stable" is your opinion. The fact is, all 3.0 builds are nightly builds, and new users should not be encouraged to download or in any way involve themselves with nightly builds.

At the end of the day, a new users with a N3DS that doesn't care about .3ds/.3dz rom support and plans to only use cia files should stick with ReiNand or PastaCFW for now. From what I have seen/read ReiNand seems to be the preferred option, especially when combined with the new .cia boot for NTR to allow NTR to be used on top of a cfw with signature checks patched.

1 reason i why i still use GW cart: To try out some games before i install them as cia in my CFW
This avoids me from installing/deïnstalling stuff i just want to try out.

Only GW/NTR2x can be booted on New3DS 8.1.0-0J - A unique & not upgradable SysNAND which contains no browser.
Since NTR2x doesn't support any unsigned stuff, GW is the only hackable thing for New3DS 8.1.0-0J.
