If you were in the US (which I see you arent) you could use a copy of Super Smash bros between this specific serial AXCE152 - AXCE352 to update right to 9.2

I wonder if there was some way you could use a US cart for its update despite being from another region.
Mine is AXCEX41112, bought it on launch day. Pretty sure it updated my own 3DS to 9.2 but just checking before I use it to set up MenuHax for a friend. (he is on 6.1)

There's eshop games with 9.1
I don't think so unless you have proven it yourself. Before you go download that from eshop, you sysnand has to be on the latest version. At least if I am the one managing eshop I would not do this redundant part by including a sysnand update on a game after your mandatory update for eshop access.

Holy shit, I currently have a friend with a 6.1 3DS too trying to find a specific cart for Super Smash Bros 3DS. So far no luck but if the serial could be higher or lower that would be time saving. The only true way to ever find out is using a 9.2 3DS and use carts to see if it asks to update or not.

Well it never did playing on SysNAND so I'm going to say yes it has 9.2 on it.
Can you update via Sky3DS? I could upload this specific cart dump to the fabled iso site.

Yes you can.
However there is NO 9.2J game on cart, so you can't update via that method.

However, I think you can inject updates into a download play partition, and update over download play with another 3ds.

No updating from e-shop games... the system will ask you to go to System Settings.

Even you click OK, it still tells you to upgrade it on your own, but not transferring FW.
