Good day everyone.

So I'm about to cut to the chase:

Is there any word/phrase that you can use to describe the language you're best at that is not your native language?

In my case that would be the English language, but, since I do not originally come from an English-speaking country, I cannot call it my native language.

I thought 'first language' would work, but after some searching, I've figured out that 'first language' is just a synonym for 'native language', so I can't use that either. Same goes for 'mother tongue'.

Is there any word/phrase you know that I can use?

I was hoping to write a sentence like "I've lived my entire life here, and that is why the English language has become my _______ language".

I'm not sure about using a comma in your sentence. I would break it up into two sentences

"I've lived here my entire life. Despite X being my native language I have become quite fluent in X language.

I'm not sure about a single phrase though.

I don't think there's a single word that fits the bill, but "most fluent" seems like what you're going for.

Just say it's your 'preferred' language. It's how I describe English, seeing as my mother tongue is Filipino.

You could say it's become like your mother tongue, even if it isn't. The simile allows for that.
