Otherwise, I need to:

1) power off the Switch
2) remove the SD card
3) delete the XCI in question
4) Tinfoil jig/hook Switch to computer and get back into SX OS

Lots of steps to just nuke a single file.

If T-X would add a file manager, or a simple way to delete backups from the SD card, that would be nice.

Yes, can use NXShell or FTPd while in the Switch OS. You can turn on your internet connection but use specific DNS to block sending info to Nintendo if using FTPD

An alternative to blocking DNS is to add your switch to the router's block list under parental controls. This will allow your switch internal network access for things like FTP etc while blocking your switch from gaining access to the outside world.

It's usually under parental controls, just have it set from 00:00-24:00 as the block times so it's a 24/7 ban on network access.

You can also setup bind locally to redirect all dns queries to Nintendo.net domains to localhost. That's what I do at home.

Is there an app for homebrew that allows me to browse the switch on the PC? the FTP app is junk and keeps saying my IP is 0.0.0.0
Yes. It is the memloader payload. Your switch then acts as a USB Drive (provided that you have selected the SD option in the payload - and having transferred some files to the root of the SD)

It's another payload, right? So you have to reboot the Switch and select the memloader payload from SX OS boot menu.
Yes unfortunately. But only solution so far but FTPd should suffice (Heard some issues with corruption on larger files, not sure if fixed now with ftpd)

FTPD didn't work as well for me, it said it can't retrieve directory contents (failing at license-request.dat) and drops out with error 550.
Seeing that FTPD doesn't work in both ways anyway, I have to take out the SD anyway to move savegames and so on.

That issue with license-request.dat error in ftpd seems to have been fixed when using SXOS 1.2

Once license is valid the request can also be deleted. Well but as long as ftpd doesn't work in both directions it's totally useless imo. Would really love to use it to transfer hb app updates for example, since the hb appstore doesn't always have the newest versions (still psnes 1.0, no idea why they don't pull releases from github) and not having to fiddle out the microsd all the time. Or for savegame editing.

If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
