Hi everyone! Apologies if this is being asked for the 1000th time.

Is using a R4 the only way to run DS games on a hacked old 3DS? Are there any homebrew apps to run those games?

Thanks a lot for any info =]

Yes, there is the nds-bootstrap and TWLoader, which are the "emulator" (It's really sd patching out loading via homebrew), and the beautiful frontend (nice GUI).

Both are relatively new, but are currently being updated and boosted.
Compatibility is low, but works nice with the titles that support it.

TWLoader: https://gbatemp.net/threads/twloader-ctr-mode-nds-app.448375/

nds-bootstrap: https://gbatemp.net/threads/nds-bootstrap-loader-run-commercial-nds-backups-from-an-sd-card.454323/

You're supposed to use TWLoader to load bootstrap directly (since bootstrap is mostly functionality without any GUI), but the behind the scenes job is done by the bootstrap.

With an R4 you'd get full compatibility, for a little price.

I assuming you have a9lh since in your last thread you installed it. R4 is pefferd since it runs everything perfectly. But there is a free emulator that is in hard work to be like R4. Curently it can save and play quite a few games but not everything and it can be slow on loading times . Here it is follow the guide in it to install.

honestly, unless you only plan to play 1 or 2 ds games, just get an r4 cart. they're cheap, they work, they got cheats and everything, and its a seperate sd card to fill.
