Is the hackability of the wii related to it's firmware ?

Hi, i live in a country where Nintendo doesn't have an official shop for games, so i am stuck with hacking the console itself, i am new here, so if you guys could help me out on this, is there a wii firmware that i should look for before buying the console ? can the wii run game backups of NGC games ?

    Thank you.

You can always import if you want to own the originals. Like for example, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a must own for any Wii owner.

But regarding your question, hacking a Wii is pretty easy and safe but you need an SD card and to play NGC games you need to make sure your Wii has the top door which has 4 controller ports + 2 memory card slots, in case it doesn't then it can't.

The firmware changes what hacks can be used however it does not change what hacks can ultimately be done for a given system. Everything is done in software as well, sadly no hardware mods worth speaking of exist past the original chips. The hardware version matters a bit, especially for the GC stuff which I will get to in a minute, but for the Wii stuff it does not matter. The main differences are ability to softmod the DVD drive to read DVDs and the ability to use bootmii boot2. There are some further interesting things for the Korean models of Wii but I do not imagine you will be getting one of those. Nobody really burns DVDs (it is all SD card and USB) and bootmii boot2 is just a nice safety feature which you can largely match as well.
I quite like https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/hacking-guide as an overview for hacking the Wii.

    GC stuff.... this gets odd.

Do note that these days there are technically models of Wii that do not have GC ports in them. This is not completely fatal for them but... well do not to get one if you want GC stuff.

The GC stuff sits somewhat apart from the Wii stuff (internally the part that handles it is called MIOS which some of the names for programs now play off, contrast this to IOS and custom IOS aka CIOS that most of the rest of Wii hacking deals in). Even today things are not quite as easy to work as the Wii stuff has ended up.

With chip hardmods, earlier softmods and burned discs it was a matter burn and play GC games, maybe with an extra launcher or patch here and there for region free or simplicity. Without them you get to use other methods. I have basically every GC game that matters though so I have not explored these methods half as much as some around here. Still it is quite doable

The main program is called DIOS MIOS

It is not as compatible as some methods but is nice.
A slight variation on the theme

Devolution is the other program of choice here. However it requires you to have a copy of the original GC game to have it work,

Thank you both for your answers, i can't import from other countries because my shipment will 120% "get lost", so i'll stick with hacking.

That high is "lost"? Well god dammit that really sucks.

As much as I despise piracy I guess this is one of those few cases that can be seen as OK to pirate.

lol thank you, but really, last time i ordered some shoes, they got lost, and not only my shoes, but most of the imported merchandise from Europe, so it's either the boat/plane/whatever got lost, or.....they stole it ? xD
