Hardware is the component cable worth it?

i was originally planning on buying one of these the day i got my wii, but the guy in the shop talked me out of, however my friend says it makes a world of difference..

so the question is...


is it worth the $50 and should i be getting one?

If you are going from the standard composite shit that is packed in with the console to component at 480p then it makes a huge difference.
If you are going from RGB SCART to component at 480i then its not so much, to 480p it will.

IMHO it's not worth it, but a lot of people see a significant enough difference to blow money over it.

well i can see that it makes the images alot sharper from that,
makes me consider buying it more.

I can say from personal experience that it does make the Wii look better on my friends 30" RCA. It is a widescreen, 1080i CRT TV. With the composite cables, it looked pretty bad. When he used the component cable, it cleared up the colors and made it look quite a bit sharper. It even put it in 480p, making Zelda TP look pretty sexy. Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: he only payed 30 for his at gamestop for the official Nintendo brand.

yeah, unfortunately, i live in australia, and we don't have gamestop =P

so i'll have to dish out $50 for the cables... which is like half the price of a game.

Yeah the difference is quite huge in my opinion. I used to think the whole stuff was just some marketing gimmick, but after going to component from composite I was blown away by what a difference it made. It makes playing the game more pleasant not to mention more purdiful.

Yep, it helped in my opinion. And I got those cheap $5 Component cables on eBay.

Buy it!!! I did so too because I was very unhappy with the "blurry" standard image. I bought a component cable and it's definitely a major improvement. In fact I couldn't wii without it anymore.... (NO NOT WEE!!)

really? were they the official ones or the 3rd party ones? i work at big w and i've only ever seen them for 47.85 or something.


does using 3rd party cables make a difference to the officials? for some reason i just don't trust them.

Yes, they are different to an original cable. They're cheaper! That's about it though. The audio/video cable game is a scam, they're all basically the same.
