If you're into hacking consoles, I'd search for an original wii. One with exploitable boot2 (so you can install bootmii as boot2 rather than as an IOS). Should be neither too hard or too expensive. (unless that red wii is an original and is casemodded, of course).

Other than that, I can't really comment. No idea why you would think it's pathetic, or even doubting that it might be. Sure, others may have larger cupboards full of consoles, accessories and stuff like that, but that doesn't say anything of YOUR collection. It's not a race to have the most of 'em.

I collect consoles and hacking hardware/software. Please comment if my collection is pathetic and what I should get.

Look at the first spoiler in my signature.

I also have a 32" 1440p TV that I use.

You need SNES, N64, SEGA Genesis or CDX, or JVC X'EYE, Dreamcast, Colecovision, Atari 2600, and some flashcarts for all your cartridge based consoles. Get yourself a Neo Geo Color Pocket too and at least Match of the Millenium.

Oh, and maybe get a good stereo CRT TV to play all your non-HDMI systems.

In my opinion, there is no reason to own consoles older than 10 years. There are emulators and you can have EVERYTHING, without cost. It is illegal, but who cares. Just create a decent media center PC and stuff it with all the emulators and roms available... Get a few controllers and you are set...

And even with emulators, there is no reason to have those games other than nostalgia, curiocity, education purposes. You are not going to play them anyway... Except a few oldie gems of course... Not enough time for the rest...

They're all sold now. Am I sad? No, I have a lot more room now. ;)

I possess 3 WiiU games and I'm happy with it.

There is no need for one. Seriously, what for?

Actually, I don't feel there is a need for it. But I believe it would still be impossible to emulate with consumer PCs from this age a high-end console from ten years ago.
I could say that it would be needed to play Gears of War 2-3 on PC... Or some Halo... perhaps that one or two Tales of games... or for... mmm... almost nothing else, everything is on PC.

Where you buy your games, which games you buy, which games you play, and which games you keep is irrelevant. If you want to build a gaming collection, you can choose to attribute to each game and console a subjective value, but there might be some academic study measuring which games and consoles have or will have more value. I think it's very important to make sure you preserve your collection well, if your intention is to treat it as a collection. The right furniture, cover protections and other things may be expensive depending on the size of it, but I think it makes more sense to first protect what you have and to make sure you can protect anything you might buy in the future.

No, it wouldn't be impossible. The biggest issue is that it would require extreme effort from hobbyists. Modern consoles are more complicated and use sophisticated apis. An emulator would require a large team of highly skilled coders with enough motivation to work for many hours without pay...

As for the hardware, a modern Intel CPU would be enough. Maybe not for 100%, but most emulators began development when it wasn't possible to 100% either...

A normal ammount? I've asked like 20 people at my school and most of them have between 2 and 4 consoles. Mostly Xbox 360 or PS3 / Xbox One or PS4. Some of them have a GBA or DS from their childhood but don't play it...
I'm assuming most of them are children then because only 12 year olds just have a 360/ps3 and a ps4 because they usually don't play older games. Not be be insulting but that made me feel old because we all had game boys as kids where I grew up and one kid had a n64 while the other had a ps1 etc...guess we were obsessed 90's kids. Also cool kids still play GBA ;)

thats because they usually only got 1 or other system.. and just like to play recent football or racing games.. or generic shooters

normal people get a console and put the old one on the attic and later either sell it or put on the trash... they dont care about owning consoles
or dont have reasons to own several....
they take space.. kids don't care about old games..
and parents will not buy them consoles while they already got a recent one..

your collection is better than mine but its small..
right now i only have ds lite, 3ds, and a cousin's wii

in the past had a ps1,slim ps2, psp, original game boy, gb color, sega megadrive (genesis)
but i was a stupid kid, didn't took care of them and they now long gone...

do you collect games?
i like to collect only the games from series i enjoy (like pokemon, mario)

Oh well... My Megadrive just died in a fire, my Famicom is completely MIA, I think perhaps I could find my PS1 that is somewhere in parts, my brother broke my PS2 phat, a friend borrowed my PSP3000 forever, my GBA got stolen, I don't have a clue what happened with my Atari 2600, and even if you may not consider this a console my grandparents threw my beloved C64 into the trash can like a decade ago (they didn't even ask)...
Life is hard...
