Is making a game relying heavily on geometry transformation a good idea?

Imagine super paper mario on a curved surface than a typical plane (which is of not linear), and jumping between a curved 2d environment and linear 3d environment.

The plot will be preventing their surface torn by a 3d force that is slowly gaining vecticle effect and causing a flat plane to become more twisted and their world having strange and possibly dangerous events due to this force. Due to their infinite thinness, 3d beings do not know they are affecting the lives of 2d beings.

The best way to find out is to prototype it and try it out.

You know...asking people what they think would be a good idea is pretty much pointless when it comes to games. There are so many aspects of games that have to work together (style, visuals, controls, concept, music, story, ...) that merely asking if one part is a good idea only results in worthless answers. And I'm not even talking about the obvious fact that most parts of the game are subjective and therefore relative to player's preferences.

In short: go with what grossaffe said. Don't ask us but get a prototype out. Playtest it until you like it. Then let others playtest it, and then ask for their reactions. That will be valuable feedback. In threads like this, I really wonder what kind of reaction you expect (I foresee lots of "yeah, sure...why not? :)" ...sooner or later followed by a "what? you want me to pay for it? In that case: I'll pass").
