I've been thinking about hacking my Switch for a while now. I won't do it by myself though since I have no clue about soldering and all that stuff

But still my question is, is it worth it modding a Switch Oled with still some new games coming out for the Switch like Xenoblade Chronicles X?

Also how do you even play the new games, can you get them online or how can you get them and how do you get the updates for these games?

Thanks in advance

Honestly depends. If you’d like to use custom themes, mods for games, extracting save data, or emulation, I’d say go for it.

Games for the Nintendo Switch can be purchased from the official Nintendo Store website, or through the Nintendo eShop applet on the Home Menu. Though, it is not recommended to use online services with a Nintendo Switch running on custom firmware. (Commonly abbreviated as ‘CFW’)

Yeah I know it's not recommended that's why I was asking how you even get new games with a modded Switch

I see. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
Purchasing a physical copy of the desired game (if applicable) is really your only option that doesn’t risk a console ban.

You sure can get new games (and updates) by buying them online on the eShop, but there is also the non-legit way of obtaining them, you just need to look for them online, by use of a search engine such as Google. They come in nsp (eShop dump) and xci (cartridge dump) format. Then you just install them with a special homebrew app.

I think you're getting pretty conservative answers here.

Yes, it is extremely worth it.

I'm not here to endorse piracy, you're better off staying away from piracy (forum rule).... but most people mod it for that sole reason.

The amount of money you can save is well... insane. That's all I'm gonna say.

One other great thing with a modded Switch is that you can use it as a portable video player.
Personally I like PPlay but there are other videoplayers out there.

Also note that once you start your pirate career, you can't play online in most cases.
This will result in a ban for life.
Some people play online with their official firmware (stock/OFW) with legally purchased games and
keep their modded firmware (CFW) offline.
So if you have some favorite games that you would like to play online, then be prepared to legally buy them.
Local play with 2 Switches is no problem for most games.

It is worth to mod the OLED switch for a lot of reasons (homebrew, mods, etc.), however dont think its gonna be easy if u have no soldering skills.

If u dont have any soldering skills etc. you will 95% break the console trying to do it unless u get someone to do it for u which is very difficult imo.
Online is a total no-go modded every modding guide will make u block all nintendo servers from the start because they will ban u the second they notice anything off in the system logs, however u can switch from original and emulated NAND (still risky)

the game (and updates) website cant be shared here but someone who searches will probably find them

Hacking is absolutely worth it - you can overclock to improve performance, increase resolution (as many games render at sub-720p to maintain frame rate or save battery), add mods to games, play previous versions (e.g. to use glitches patched out in later updates - TotK comes to mind here), use other systems’ controllers, back up and restore save files &c. It doesn’t stop you buying games - you can reboot into the original firmware to access the eShop. But transferring your purchased/updated games from sysNAND to emuNAND to use the enhancements I have mentioned is a bit of a pain, so you may be tempted to acquire the installable files elsewhere. Nintendo must be a bit puzzled when I buy games then seemingly never actually download my purchases!

Of course it's worth it, even just to play the large library of already existing games that you don't own (because who of us is rich enough to afford to buy every game worth playing on a console...)
And the OLED is the best mod, so it's the obvious one to mod if you are or know someone who is good at soldering.
