Apple Is it safe to upgrade my jailbroken 3.2 ipad to 4.2?

If yes, do I need to upgrade to 4.2 and then jailbreak it again or is there a way for my ipad to stay jailbroken for the entire process?

It's safe, but you can't keep the jailbreak during the upgrade. Just upgrade it through iTunes, then use limera1n.

4.2 does NOT have a jailbreak yet so if you upgrade that means no jailbreaking.

Yes it does have a jailbreak, but it is tethered, so if you turn the iPad off then you will have to re-jailbreak (all pirated apps as well as Safari will not work until you do so).

It is safe because you won't get a brick, but you will lose your jailbreak. Currently, the only way to jailbreak an iPad on 4.2 is Redsn0w, and it is tethered (you need to rejailbreak everytime you turn on your iPad, resprings don't count). But apparently there will be a new untethered jailbreak before Christmas. If you update while you have your SHSH blobs backed up, you can always just downgrade (good if you just want to try 4.2).
