Hacking Is it risky to buy a SKY3DS flashcard before knowing the firmware of the N3DS (Europe release)?

How could they do a mandatory patch fix? I'm not saying they won't or can't.... Just interested how they would do it. Incorporate it into a game or push it like a normal firmware update?

because ofc FW updates are unable to detect and block hardware emulation solutions :tpi:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/ps3-firmware-4-60-has-disabled-ode-all-ps3-models-4520/
http://www.dashhacks.com/ps3/hardwa...official-firmware-455-blocking-their-ode.html

sorry, but unless the hardware emulations is perfect it can be blocked via software updates......hardware emulation is only as good as its emulating abilities, and unlike the ps3 ode devices, sky3ds has not shown any signs of being FW upgradable to improve emulation if there is any flaws that allow Nintendo to detect it, whether they can or will is a whole different question, but just because something is emulating something does not mean its immune from being detected and blocked

idk what kind of "dev" would claim FW cannot block hardware...obviously it can, but only if it can differentiate from the original hardware vs imitation hardware

and in regards to it being a 1 line of code fix....yeah maybe it is, but that doesn't meant that 1 line of code wouldn't have to be thoroughly tested to make sure it has no adverse effects....maybe the 1 line of code would cause issues....maybe it wouldn't, making sure there is no bugs in that code doesn't make it any more than 1 line of code....but adding something randomly into the FW isn't something you just push out and hope for the best

but GW's launcher.dat has full system access, and upon loading the emunand it can patch nintendo's patch.
unlike sky3ds, which does not have full system access.
gateway's ability to use emunand cannot be patched just as easily as sky3ds...
*If they find it
**If the bootloader isn't updatable

Placing my imaginary monies on the next update blocking sky3DS or even the update after that one. Remember though, neimod himself managed to identify a sky3DS vs a retail card with his own hardware, so it's perfectly plausible for it to be blocked with software. There's also the possibility of newer chips being used in the newer carts which have a slightly different response which the 3DS can check against, and thus block those newer games from working on the sky3DS. Heck, we don't even know if the N3DS specific games have any special responses yet or if they work on sky3DS at all. Also, R&D takes time, if you are a real dev you should know that. All of you sky3DS people are really in denial that your cart can actually be patched. By that logic, all the DS flash carts should have never been blocked ever because they emulate a normal DS cart. There are still ways to find those carts apart from normal carts you know.

Keep your imagnary money and use it to buy the next imaginary sky3ds.

This hold true but there's one key factor between ps3 block and the 3ds block. Sony was able to block it by updating the firmware on the blueray drives and also adding in another checkpoint. I'm not sure how Nintendo will try blocking card base games this way.

well just going off what well established devs have said, sky3ds isnt perfect and it can be differentiated by the console as it is right now........if the emulation was perfect, yeah at that point the only way they could do anything would be revised hardware, which would still obviously leave their entire back catalog open to pirating and only new games manufactured could block it......but its very rare that emulation is perfect, but it can get to a point where differentiating between legit and fake would be so close that blocking could potentially happen to legit carts

even if sky3ds is blocked, i doubt it would be the last we hear of them, im sure they would be back again with a new button colour and refined emulation to bypass the block.....emulation is hard to block completely without completely redesigning your security to break all the emulation teams efforts......but with carts, its harder than a FW update, and any games emulated would likely always be piratable.....it would be a matter of cutting losses and trying to find a viable way to protect your future releases

Firmware 9.5, as I predicted Sky3DS works perfectly, that "dev" who said "easy to block" was a total fake and a big troll. This flashcard only can be blocked with a hardware mod, believe me.

Except 9.5 didn't really block any exploits, like at all. This may just be a case of Nintendo being lazy or waiting to fix everything in one go. Such things aren't uncommon.

Besides, just because you predicted it not getting blocked once doesn't mean it never will. If you have any tangible proof on the matter then I for one would love to see it. Otherwise it's all speculation.

just because it is not blocked yet does not mean it cannot be blocked... i'm not sure if a hardware update is the only way to block it, but still,

risky is a big word, if you are on 9.3+ and just want to play your region games, it's worth it, if a newer update blocks it, just stay on 9.3/9.4/9.5 but you lose eshop access (not now)
If you are on 9.2 you can just aswell buy a gateway and have the extra possibilities or you can get a sky3ds if you don't care about the extra's like cia (eshop games) and out of the box regiofree

It all is up to you,on what you want to spend your money.
(If you got money to spend, get both ;) )

It really doesn't matter what GW or Sky3DS fanboys say, consider the pro's and con's and make your descission!
If you decide on GW, don't update and wait for the N3DS support
If you decide on Sky3DS update and play your games and get eshop access or stay on your 9.x FW the N3Ds is and play and don't get eshop access

In the Future:
If Sky3DS gets blocked in a newer FW, don't update and lose eshop access
If GW somehow gets emunand more crippled like now with no multirom, stay on your old emunand and lose eshop access and wait for a fix
