The 10.x version of sysupdater is the only part that is "unstable"
It took me over 100 tries to get the initial downgrade to work.
Once on 9.2 everything has a much higher success rate

If it's worth it or not is really your choice to decide. It should be noted that no matter how you slice it, and no matter how good the guides are, any time you're trying to hack a console, there's always at least some risk involved. It's up to you to decide if the risk is worth the reward or not. I see a bunch of people yelling yes in this thread, but it's not their 200 dollar console potentially at risk.

Because sysupdater relies on an exploit known as a race condition to function (presumably a "time of check to time of use" bug). Race conditions are often unreliable to exploit because the "right" signal has to win the race for it to work, if the "wrong" one wins then it will fail.

If you want to do something hack or development, it is rather worth doing so.
If your purpose is only pirate games, then I have to say most probably you will play none of them after you spend lots of times downloading and installing a lot of CIAs in your 3DS.
That will (definitely) destroy your fun of games.
It is too late now but that is what I want to say, based on my experience on NDS.
