Since this is a flash card meant for the DSi with backwards compatibility, I expected that you could also play GBA roms without the need for a slot-2 expasion pack. But whenever I try to run a GBA rom I get the message that I need a slot-2 card. Is there a way to make it work without such a thing?

You need a Supercard DSTwo if you don't have a slot 2 expansion.
So basically you can't use an M3 to run GBA roms without an expansion.

Oh crud. Guess that friend of mine just tricked me, although I had my doubts about this being true.

Why would you expect that? The DSi has mostly the same innards as a normal DS, except for the Slot 2 and GBA parts removed. Therefore, it cannot run GBA games unless you have an iPlayer or a SCDS2, since they have a processor in them which can emulate the console.

You need a slot-2 device to play GBA games on your M3i Zero...plus either a phat DS or a DS Lite. The only other way to circumvent that is if you get a SuperCard DS TWO or an iPlayer.

Please look something up before creating a thread for it.
Sorry, but no slot1 card other than 3 of them can play GBA games.
And the others to play GBA games need to be used on a DS or DSlite, not a DSi or DSi XL since they lack a slot2
