I don't know if you need a working disc drive but probably not. you won't be using it.

afaik, it's solderless, so it probably just intercepts the sata connection like the blaster did. the blaster was a way to flash the system without opening up the system. ironically, you had to open up the system to install it. it used two boards, both solderless.

Ok. This looks interesting. It works with an official Xbox 360 hard drive or do I need to get a usb hard drive/flash drive?

probably usb. the internal hdd uses xfat, which is an xbox partition that's not readable in windows. it would be difficult to get games on there if that were not the case.

yes, the board is probably small. I haven't seen one and @DinohScene probably knows more about it than I do. he used to offer a flashing service (not sure if he still does) for Europe, so he has a lot more experience than I do who's only done his own two or three systems and never owned an xkey. I've never opened a slim, but for a phat, there's some space near the hdd cradle to fit a chip. I'd imagine that's where it goes. I think that's where the blaster's went.

I don't keep track of retailers, you should google that.

A dump of the keys is 265kb, it has to be from your 360's drive.
Doesn't matter if it doesn't read discs or works anymore, as long as the drive board itself is working.
Jungleflasher can dump the keys for you if you have a compatible SATA chipset or dedicated flashing gear like the X360 USB Pro

Him. It's actually cheaper to buy the replacement disk drive online.

Replacement disc drive still needs to be flashed with your keys.
Otherwise the 360 won't accept it.

They have to be flashed only if you want to play back ups right?

If I buy a disc drive I'll probably just play some discs, so would I need to flash it with new FW then? It's an official 360 DD
