I have an internal webcam from a laptop, a usb, and a soldering iron, and I was wondering if I could make an external webcam. The camera is from inside a Dell Vostro 1520.

What do you mean by a USB? If the internal webcam was connected to the laptop's USB bus, then yes, you could. However if this is not the case you will need a controller inbetween, a DSP or CPLD.

Whatever the case I dont think it is really worth it apart from the fun of making it work most laptop webcams are quite bad and you can get a similar usb webcam for not much money so if you are going to do this it will only be for the fun of soldering it.

I thought someone provided a great answer to the same question on Ask GBAtemp.
