Nope that doesn't work the boot.dat isn't a normal payload.

There was a script on CTCaer Twitter to create a boot.dat from hakate payload.

You should wait for payload/linux booting from hekate (should come in very shortly)

Unless you always want to use hekate and want to save the hassle of holding volume and selecting from a menu.

Or are you saying that because you don't feel that is important, that nobody else should too?

If you have a trinket or other samd board it can be flashed to send hekate payload directly. If you don't have one, pm me - I am building a dongle and will send you one.
