I'm on system menu 3.3u and I'm wondering if it's ok to turn my WiiConnect24 back on. My wii buddies and I tend to use that feature a lot for passing scores in Pop, Mario Kart invites, Wii Mail, ect. It sucks to not feel connected. So, what do you people think?

    Not this crap again. I...I...why...

Are you afraid that your Wii will auto-update? Is that why after you got a message from Nintendo about the update that you turned it off? Think for a second, it'll hit you.

No need to be sarcastic, I'm just being careful. You can't blame a brotha for not tryin' to get his system hymmed up.

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm trying to make you use your brain. For a second.

Now, think back to when Nintendo released the update. Everyone got a blue light with a message.

If your Wii could auto-update, wouldn't it had autoupdated overnight while you got your message?

    Exactly.

The auto-updates only happens on 3.4, it isn't programmed in 3.3 and you haven't agreed to their new terms of services. On 3.3 you are abiding by their current ToS which mentions nothing of the sort.

If it'll ease your mind I'm on 3.3b and I had WiiConnect 24 since that and no auto-update.

That was another thing that got me thinking about turning my WiiConnect24 back on. I read somewhere that auto update was not programmed into 3.3 so as of this moment my WiiConnect24 and my standby connection is on [IMG]

turn on your Wii and do not press any button, if you wait enough, your Wii will enter into the SysMenu, so what I'm trying to says, as an hipotesis (of course), you are afraid of Ninty updating your Wii 'cuz you have the EULAv2 (come with 3.3.2 and 3.4), and that could happend only if the Wii is ON, at least that is what I think, hope you find this information useful...!! Actually, I have 3.3 v1. I never did the October update and used the Ios51 workaround and Shop Channel updater apps to get around that.

sorry guys you all are wrong.
First they had the autoupdate part in the 'Wii Network Service Privacy Policy' for quite some time now (>6months) they just changed the wording a bit.
Secondly the 'Wii Network Service Privacy Policy' is not bound to any systemmenu version, you automatically accept any changes once you accepted one version of it (the legality is another story).

And now the big surprise there is no code in 3.4 for autoupdating.

I wonder why so many people state wrong stuff as facts...

I have kept my wii connect on. As for turning yours back on , you can if you like. Aslong as you didn't update to 3.4 you will be ok. As far as I know from a legal standpoint that can't just make you accept the update under 3.3. What I mean is under 3.3 I don't belive there is any language stating anything about auto updates as for 3.4 , I'm sure the changed there TOS there by allowing them to auto update your wii. Understand what I mean ?

I agree, as soon as they updated the EULA, it was the one in effect.

    However, here's my story....

I turned WC24 on, got the message about the System 3.4 update, and the message about the EULA.

Well, I was curious about which EULA I had on my Wii, so I went to Internet settings to read what I had. Then it asked if I wanted to use the internet and the Wii Shop Channel. I said yes. Then it connected to a Nintendo server to serve me the new EULA! I read it, it was the new one, I of course never saw the "old" one. At that point I had to Agree or choose "I do not agree." I chose the second option. I now can't use the Shop Channel.

So? Fuck it, fuck the shop channel. Now at least legally I have told Nintendo, I DO NOT AGREE to them doing automatic updates. So, that's legality for ya.

  17. I have NEVER shut off my WiiConnect24 and standby...and I'm all good. =]
