Is it a good idea buying an already modded PS2 off eBay?

I figured that hopefully someday I can find a PS2 auction on eBay that comes with a fliptop and those Swap Magic discs and I'm set to go. Only thing is that I have to buy the DVD-R discs seperately but that's no problem. How often do these auctions show up on eBay and would they likely get taken down? Do people sometimes hide them in the title and only post in the description that it's modded?

Just get FMCB on then run Cogswap which is a copy of Swap Magic. There's a guide here that I made.

Just get a fat PS2, something to boot FMCB (friend with a modchip who can load it on your mem card, Swap Magic, PSX exploit, etc.) and then use HDloader [IMG]. Way better for the lens and there's only a couple of great games which don't work with HDloader; you can just burn those.

Ebay will always pull down auctions of modchips/flashcarts since they are deemed unknown legality. Basically ebay just trying to keep from getting sued.

That is why you never see auctions of "R4 type" devices listed on ebay or others

Also how did the Swap Magic trick become so popular with PS2 modding that the FMCB method (which takes less hassle) got overlooked?

The FMCB method only came near 10 years after the PS2 was out, and SM was only a few years after. SM is just like the R4.
