Last time I accidentally launched a new 3ds game on my old 2ds and it made it crash so this time I want to be sure.

no. new 3ds games are not ever going to work on a old 3ds console.
This.

You can't just magically give the system more RAM to make it work on O3DS systems. There's no memory expansion carts for the 3DS like there was for the DS Lite.

Where exactly did you find "fnaf 2,3 and 4" ? I've only heard of the FNAF1 port, which, as per https://gbatemp.net/threads/five-nights-at-freddys-1-3ds-remastered.582391/ , works on "old/new systems". If FNAF 2, 3, and 4 use the same engine, then they will probably not require a New 3DS.

And even if it crashes, that's no big deal; you just turn the system off and on again, uninstall the game, and move on, right? (If by "made it crash" you mean something else, then I can't imagine it running a New 3DS game would cause severe, lasting problems.)

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
