Is collecting physical retail games worth it?

Servers eventually go offline. Hard drives and memory cards wear down and break. Carts and optical discs generally only break if you abuse them.

Certainly at times digital sales are cheaper, but it comes at the cost of never being to trade them up for other games, or pawn a bad game off on an unsuspecting friend.
While i do agree with you, there might be a certain issue, at least with disc based media called disc rotting.

Though in that type of situation it would probably take so long for something like that to happen that by the time it did, if it happens, it might be after any of our lifetimes.

I go to physical games when there"s a physical version of that game. Also as said I think that you can"t do anything if you lose the data after servers shutdowns is a very big disadvantage.

With the prices of retro games on eBay, I wouldn't even attempt to collect retro games. I did start a mini Gamecube collection years ago, and was shocked how OP the games became a few years later. I got Skies of Arcadia from Gamestop for like 15 dollars, and on eBay, ugh.

Hard drives die, but hey, as long as you keep your save datas in safe places, you're good. Honestly, for example, how long would it take you to re-download an entire SNES rom pack? It's not that big.

for vita i mainly get used physical, much cheaper, good if i get banned lol.
but it's not good to have a big collection and having it take up space.
i guess if it doesn't hurt you financially, and you stay in the same space a lot it's ok.
but collections can take up lots of money, and hard to move 500 games and want to play them :)
digital is nice if there is no drm or if you can access the files.
like kindle, you can backuo and restore your books to the same kindle without removing the drm.
if you remove drm you can do whatever you want the book.

The Greek dub of Toy Story's You've got a friend in me is still a classic even among boomers who've never watched the movie, mostly because it was sung by a famous beloved Greek singer
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
Also his choice was quite interesting since his songs are anything but family-friendly
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
If anything, some of his songs were so controversial that he got troubles with the law regarding "blasphemy laws" in Greece.
