if you want a project then you can try it yourself? it would be fun, probably not too difficult either, just replacing/renaming files if you are lucky

Eh... I'd love to... but I don't really have the time or the ability.
I'm just hoping someone who does comes along and saves the day.

I realise now how replace all japanese text to english.
To do this I need to edit code.bin
But rom won't work with edited code.bin
I really wish I could help but I wouldn't know how.
I hope you or someone can figure it out...

English rom contains 6873 audio files.
Japanese rom contains 6928 audio files.
English and japanese audio files have different names.
I compared, renamed and replaced 5540 files.
1333 files left.
But there is a little problem.
English rom with replaced audio works fine.
Fine, but japanese phrases breaked near the end.
It's sounds like "ohayo godz~~~~~/domo arig~~~~~"
I tried many (realy many) things. But i can't fix this problem.
I spent a lot of time with this undub. Realy a lot.
However, i decided to stop working before I throw my laptop out the window.

Also, if someones need it, here is .bat for renaming japanese files: http://a.pomf.se/rgsmva.bat
Place it in romfs/stream (japanese rom) and run.
Then copy all 5540 dspadpcm.bcstm files to english rom (romfs/stream)
If someone realize how fix problem i can make a .bat for remaining 1333 files

Do you think the sound might cut off because the Japanese version has a longer window to play sounds? Maybe it's easier to replace the Japanese text in the Japanese version instead?

Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge regarding rom editing.

I'm quite impressed Homu, I didn't expect anyone to actually go through the 12000 voice files and manually replace them one by one. That's one hell of an achievement, a real shame that it doesn't work properly. I have no clue what that bug might be. Good luck!

No, it's actually not. We've tried this before both homu and I, and it always results in the game crashing randomly during gameplay. It has no indication on where it crashes, it's completely random. Otherwise that would indeed be the easiest way to solve the entire undub problem with this one.

I have to say that the developer team has done a good job localising this game to the west (besides the dub). It might be hard to undub, but that only means they've been a bit more thorough than usual with how they ported this thing. They didn't just literarily translate the script and just re-dub the voice files like Atlus usually does, they've actually ported it properly from the ground up. The only downside with that, is of course that it's hard for us to undub thanks to it's rather special setup.

I dig all game sources. And i can't found any files thats contain timing for sound playing window.
Maybe it's easier to replace the Japanese text in the Japanese version instead?
I can replace all japanese text to english.
I even can run rom with edited code.bin (In RF4 part of text stored in code.bin)
But it's brings so many new problem..

I found two lists of file names in game sources.
These names sorted very similar in japanese and english rom.
Thats why i don't listened each file. I listened ~2-3 in each group of ~10-20 files.
Furthermore, all japanese files are named like V_PLAM_DATE_TE_NIGIRERUKANA/V_PLAM_DEAD_KONNNATOKORODE_A/etc
So i listened only english files.
And read japanese file names.
It's still a lot of work of course. But not so much as listening 12k audio files.

It certainly doesn't seem to be anything with the bcstm files as they seem to cut out regardless. I guess something else must be setting durations, perhaps there's something in the bcsar? I am certainly not competant enough to tackle the issues so good luck to anyone else delving into this.

I just checked the runefactory 3 undub.. and i don't even want to start with runefactory 4 until there is an undub now. Are save files compatible after undubbing the rom?

I just replaced the english voices with the japanese voices yesterday.
Till now, it works really fine.
If someone could tell me how I can create a "Patch" the doesn't contain a rom (3ds, cia), I could upload it. Otherwise... no

Can you explain how you exactly replace voice files?
English and japanese files have a different names. And even if you rename and replace them, they not played properly ingame.
