they also had the grass deterioration in new leaf but they made the rate it happens much less thankfullyThe controls were never really my issue with that game. Although if you have access to later versions, you're really better off playing those as they're more improved.
That grass destroying mechanic was an idea that seemed cool in concept but terrible in practice. It tended to turn most people's "town" into a dirt patch.
No.Are the Wii controls really that bad?
I don't like the no cilindric world in GC.I never enjoyed Animal Crossing City Folk.
But I do have to said the controls were never a problem for me, even with WiiMote alone. The Point and Click movement is nice, but if I'm playing it it better be with Nunchuk in order to escape Bees.
As far as game content... yeah, it sucks.
I've been playing Animal Crossing: Population Growing! (GameCube) since 2003 and got very accustomed to it's mechanics.
Wild World and City Folk fails as a proper Animal Crossing experience.
Where are the catchy Hourly Music that differed in both genres and rhythms? Why ditch the help Neighbors to get Items mechanic? It's so stupid! I'm surprised Animal Crossing is as popular as it is nowadays because all games after Wild World just fucking sucks. Music in post GameCube era is so fucking monotone that I haven't actually payed my initial loan for the starting home in any of Wild World, City Folk and New Leaf. Awful!
Why Nintendo decided to make items only available through Wi-Fi events? Every game after GCN is literally impossible to get a full Catalog because you had to be there when special items/furniture/masks were distributed.
Wasn't OPs question: "Is City Folk that bad?"
Yes, it is bad. Definitely wouldn't recommend it over GCN Animal Crossing. The only true Animal Crossing experience.
Yep, agreed on most, although New Leaf Is the only other AC game that I think is good and is worth playing.. AC GCN is the absolute best though. I think objectively it has the best dialogue and feels like villagers are not just empty shells (and more important of all, they are mean! I love that), more interesting events, and yeah, getting a full catalog it’s important.I never enjoyed Animal Crossing City Folk.

WW people are meant too.Yep, agreed on most, although New Leaf Is the only other AC game that I think is good and is worth playing.. AC GCN is the absolute best though. I just can’t understand the hype of WW in particular, though, can’t get into the lack of holidays. Or especially NH, which I think makes me think the future of the series is absolutely bleak..
I find the criticism for the game to be unessasary. Yeah Wild World is "better," but I don't know what could be wrong with the game as it's essentially the same game but more.
I think that's the major issue. City Folk is essentially the same game as Wild Wold but with the city tacked on and even then, the City is more like a small town.
New leaf is great but too much to do for me.It isn't so bad, but the grass wear sucks. Bad enough that I consider it mandatory to play it with the deterioration disabled via cheats. I did that eventually once my town's grass started going away.
The controls didn't put me off because I played Petz Cats 2 and The DOG Island with the wiimote only before playing CF (and IIRC, the Wii games let you use the Nunchuck, but I didn't know that for a long time).
Haven't can't comment on anything newer than New Leaf. Haven't played much of the GCN or WW. New Leaf was my favorite because it added a lot more stuff to do, and allowed more flexibility with odd time schedules, for those of us who aren't daywalkers, without having to mess with time, or even the two ordinances that shift the times everything operates at. Hard to give up beautiful town ordinance.
Let's Go To The City was intended to be cross-compatible with Wild World during development, which is probably a reason why it's the only AC game with the ability to import your catalogue, and why most of the new features are stuffed into the City itself.'Is Animal Crossing City Folk really that bad?'
Nah, it isn't bad. If you like Wild World (DS), then it's basically more of the same with some extras.
The issue at the time was that it was more of the same, and for people that was unacceptable - they expected something different. Looking at it nowadays, it's all fine and dandy. I love me some Wild World/City Folk.
Each Animal Crossing entry has its own special thing (haven't tried New Horizons though), so I wouldn't compare them tbh.
