I also feel the same way. However, I can't stand using touchscreens over actual buttons for emulators. I had a PSP a while back, and I used the GBA Emulator and other emulators wayyy more than I ever have on a phone/touchscreen device.

My personal favorite controller for android. It basically makes a slightly larger but far more competent Vita with a Note 3. But there's plenty of other, very competent, controllers now with various attachment types. It's a good time to be an portable android emulation enthusiast.
Not to mention, emulators drain your phone like crazy! Playing some GBA games for 15 minutes drags my battery down to 80℅ already!
Yep, that's the only major annoyance especially when you can't scale how much power it uses via the emulator, but there are workarounds, throttle the CPU/GPU to the level necessary and save a lot of battery that way or those nice power banks that work well enough. Of course, neither is perfect but I guess neither is emulation.
