I'm thinking of getting a Gateway tonight and a JP New 3DS (white) next week or so. As I understand it, Gateway support for N3DS is on the way with the same usage as on regular 3DS. Just have some questions before I jump in. (for reference, my current 3DS XL is 9.2 Gateway compatible and my import N3DS will almost certainly be a compatible FW)

1. Will I be able to back up all of my digital games on my current XL to the Gateway (saves or no saves) and play them on a JP New 3DS no problem? I won't have access to the NA eShop so this would be the only way to play english digital titles on the new system.
2. How many micro SD cards will I need? One for Gateway, one for New 3DS and I'm good? I can use the SD card I currently use for my XL with Gateway no problem?
3. When the N3DS compatability update comes out in a week, will I be able to emunand the JP firmware up to 9.4 no problem?
4. Does backing up 3DS games back up saves as well?
5. Will my 3DS backups acknowledge their running on a New 3DS and take advantage of the new features? I only ask because I have a JP DSi XL and I can't run games in DSi mode off a flash cart.

That's pretty much everything I can think of at the moment. I just want to be able to play all of my NA 3DS games on this system with no worries, retail or digital. Thank you for your help and sorry for any stupid, ignorant questions :P

I can answer a few of these from personal experience:

1 - with Cearp's tools it is possible to basically extract the license info off your current 3DS and then download/pack roms and cias of any of those you want. I did this in preparation for switching to a EUR N3DS from a USA one.
4 - This doesn't preserve your saves. For that you need to extract the saves using SaveDataFiler and then re-inject the saves when they're installed on the N3DS. Note that this will not work for Animal Crossing. There's just no way to move the save for the eShop version of that beast because of system checks it does.
