"It provides for criminalization of copyright infringement, granting law enforcement the powers to perform criminal investigation, arrests and pursue criminal citations or prosecution of suspects who MAY have infringed on copyright"

Basically, you're guilty until proven otherwise. The police can spy on everything we do, bust into our homes and drag us away if they THINK we're guilty.

So much for freedom and privacy in the US.

Pretty much what the new Digital Bill UK does then.

Is this worldwide?

If it is... prepare for a new show here in the UK...House Wars (based on the classic shows Road Wars and Street Wars)

For those unaware, they are both shows showing police arresting people.

Back on-topic: Dang piracy is slightly getting pushed in the hot water as of late. First I heard of ISPs slowing your connection down then eventually cutting you off if you pirate and now this!

Unlikely but it can happen..heck, last time police came to my house (family emergency), I was downloading music via Limewire (and yes, it was open)

I doubt this will happen, at least here in the US. We flipped a shit when we heard about the whole wiretap thing. And that's just phone calls. The worst you could get caught doing is having phone sex or calling up a prostitute. On the internet, you don't want to know the government is watching your disgusting porn fetishes and shit like that. I'd expect huge protest.

Also, linking to TPB is a no-no. It hosts lots of illegal content.

@ Guild

Yes I am aware of that. Sorry!

I just thought this was important enough to tell people about regardless of the links.

Even if this does come into effect I can't imagine it ever being used. Surely the police have bigger fish to fry than a few scurvy pirates like us. You know, what with the murderers and paedophiles and rapists and all. Don't crap your pants just yet, I still reckon the world at large doesn't give enough of a fuck about piracy for this to be any real threat.

But if anyone asks, I was never here....
