Hacking Import New 3DS to NA firmware?

Since the smaller New 3DS isn't coming to NA, is there any way to import one from say Japan or Europe, and then change the firmware to the NA variant? Maybe spoof the firmware of the NA New 3DS XL on the smaller imported 3DS?

I have no idea if this is even possible, but my god would it be wonderful if it was.

Bummer... That only makes me curious if it's even possible. What if I were to send it into Nintendo, maybe they'd have a way of changing it.

Too bad they'll never do that. :D
