I'm imagining a lot of things. The DSplaying FLV files is the least of my worries.

There are a few FLV players aimed at handheld devices, but they still need more CPU power than the DS can offer. If someone really got down to writing an optimised decoder it may be done. But don't hold your breath.

EDIT: If you're thinking of youtube, the dswifi lib speed is also quite limiting.

Interesting idea, but not really enough processing power to pull it off properly I'd imagine.

Why...? FLV=Flash Video Files and have a horrible lossy compression algorithm. For better quality, the size of the file balloons and wll, not worth it. At any rate, I don't believe the Nintendo DS has the hardware specifications to be able to play larger FLV files, while it may be possible for smaller ones, its just not worth it. I personally convert the FLV file to a format that the DS can easily play. Theres a few nice, free programs and websites that can do this for you, http://vixy.net/ is one.

That's what I was going to say. You can just convert the flv format into a dpg format. Several programs can, but I always use SUPER, http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html . It is the best one I've found and easy to use. And it can convert flv files to dpgs that can run on moonshell.

So what you meant to say was imagine having a Mac which actually could do what you wanted it to do (no I don't hate Macs, it's just a computer eh).

Imagine if people wanting to watch video on the go just decided to watch it on a portable dvd player and stopped trying to watch it on a hand held game device.

    Does anyone still use those?

    PMPs are current-gen.

I see too many folks using iPods and them tiny screens.

Also Urza get a new avatar. I... don't like that one. [IMG]

I found this as a likely reasonable PMP example
    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=j_2d32qkyIw

Not bad I suppose. And likely the future too.

But compare that with the simplicity of a device that simply plays dvds, has a large screen (in comparison) and it becomes a contest between inexpensive and simple vs hi tech, expensive, and limited screen size.

Well I'm guessing they mean the large amount of flash games that would be quite enjoyable with a touch screen, as opposed to movies and the such.

It would be nice if there was like a program like flash but that made output in .nds format =D so anyone could make a ds game if they knew actionscript. That'd see some fun homebrew.

I was thinking along the same lines as Little; It'd be fantastic if the DS could run Flash games. Having said that, I don't see the DS being able to emulate that very well.

I think a decent 3GP player would be good for the DS! It should be able to handle video at at least 20fps at OK quality.
