So Mario Eclipse’s music doesn’t run on Nintendont (learned that the hard way), but I heard Swiss doesn't have that problem and works on both GameCube and Wii. I bought an SD Gecko and downloaded the necessary files for the Wii version. These files are Swiss, Swiss Booter, and cMIOS (Wii Gator). I also got the RVL-mios-v10.wad to load the MIOS from the sd card since my Wii cannot connect to the internet and cant download MIOS from NUS.

Here is where the problem lies. When I setup the IOS load to IOS249 on Wii Gator on the Wii and then I select “Load MIOS from sd card” (the RVL-mios wad) it says,

Could not open file: sd:/RVL-mios-v4.wad
Could not open file: sd:/RVL-mios-v4.wad.out.wad
Could not open file: sd:/MIOSv4.wad
Error reading MIOS into memory
MIOS installation failed.

I'm really at a loss here and could use some help. If anyone who's tech-savvy could lend a hand, I would be so grateful. I've been trying to get this working for 6 hours, no exaggeration. I wish it was! I truly appreciate it.

It wants a different version of MIOS. You should use the version it's asking for.

Oh. What version it is asking for then? I’m super confused. On the tutorial it says to use Wii Gator to run RVL-mios-v10.wad through the sd card. The tutorial is over 13 years old though so maybe it is outdated. I haven’t been able to find any recent tutorials on this.

It clearly says v4. Maybe you have the wrong version of the installer?

RVL-mios-v10 is the officail MIOS and cMIOS (Wii Gator) is what you need for swiss you cant have both installed at the same time because there is only one mios slot on the wii.

Ah that could be it. Dang, I don’t know where to get everything up to date then. I am clueless with all this stuff. Got a kid begging me to play Mario Eclipse, but when I loaded it on Nintendont he got creeped out because there was no music and just had people groaning lmao. I wish I had a good computer that could just play Dolphin. I’m losing hope.

Wow I didn’t know that. So this would mean I would have to delete the other completely then? This would mess with the other homebrew apps right? (I’m totally clueless with this stuff)

MIOS is the IOS only used in GameCube mode.

Nintendont / Devolution may not work properly if the custom MIOS is installed, so you gotta be careful.

If you get lucky, an "SD Media Launcher" would work, too.

You dont need to uninstall the mios when you install wii gater it will overwright the official mios it can be easily reverted and nintendont does not use the mios it runs on ios58.

As long as you already have Homebrew Channel (GameCube memory card manager) it is simple to get swiss on wii with a GameCube save game exploit. You do not need to mess around with wads.

This video shows a exploit on GameCube but the same applies to wii.

You will need one of these GameCube games and a memory card for swiss (85 blocks) or research a .dol launcher.

Both Devolution and Nintendont use IOS 58, so the state of MIOS and BC don't matter to them at all. (This is the entire point of the IOS architecture) The SD Media Launcher is just an SD Gecko, but without the fast I/O mode. The GameCube memory card port - like the PS2's - electrically supports SD Cards: the dongle is just a passthrough.

That's a really roundabout solution when installing the proper cMIOS is so much easier. If you can't find it, OP, I'll send you a link. In the PMs, because Nintendo Ninjas. I have all the MIOS stuff sitting on my SD Card juuust in case.

Update: I ended up getting the right MIOS so Swiss opened. Another problem has popped up though. When I select Super Mario Eclipse from Swiss it just has a green screen. Completely bright green. I also have a gamecube disk in there and wanted to see if Swiss could play the game as well, but instead it says the motor is not on. Could that be the problem with Super Mario Eclipse going green? How would I turn the motor on for Swiss if this is the case?

I don't know what that error means, but the green screen could be due to having the wrong video mode selected IIRC.

I use a save game exploit already on my GameCube so it's only a case of placing the disc and memory card to my wii.

Yes, that was it! Thankyou!

There is a DRM-free version of Devolution just so you know.
I actually downloaded Devolution before downloading Swiss. When I used it for Mario Eclipse the game was actually unplayable. Mario would literally float in the air when he jumped, and walking felt like the ice levels in Zelda. He just slid around.

Oh dear, another problem just came up. How do I save my save data on the SD Gecko? I don't see the option in Swiss anywhere, and I don't own another memory card.

SD Gecko doesn't work as a memory card, but I think Swiss has memory card emulation, not sure how compatible it is as I've never used it, but should be in the Swiss settings. I use an official 1019 block memory card, plenty of space for any game I could want to play and it was only like $20.

Yes, you need to set up Swiss for memory card emulation to use your SD Card to save games. Memory Cards run in EXI mode, SD Cards in SPI mode. Games that aren't certain Japanese versions of Animal Crossing have no idea how to even talk to SD Cards. I would recommend against using the official 1019 block (8 MB) memory card, because they seem to have a far higher than normal failure rate, especially on the Wii.

I mainly use Swiss to load Crystal Chronicles on the Wii, because Nintendont doesn't support 576p and Devolution doesn't support retail discs, and I use my childhood memory card (256 blocks, AKA 2 MB if anyone's curious - Colosseum Mega Pak!) to save that game, so I'm not too familiar with enabling it. From what I can gather (this info is a few years old) you need to enable Boot from IPL for the emulation to work.

On the GameCube I use it for my Game Boy Player because Game Boy Interface is great and I also got it cheap because it didn't have the Start-Up Disk. To boot Swiss there I use an Action Replay disk and a copy of Swiss called "autoexec.dol" - gotta love FAT32 eh? No hardlinking! (Then again if I really cared I could recompile Wii Swiss Booter to look for autoexec.dol so eh)

I have heard some things about the 1019 block memory cards but surely it's still better than the 3rd party ones? Since those are notorious for randomly corrupting.
I don't really want to use multiple smaller official memory cards as 251 blocks would not be enough for everything, and I can back up my saves easily enough that corruption isn't a huge concern, it's mostly my childhood saves I don't want to lose, which I left a copy of on the sd2sp2 MicroSD card just in case.

Depends on the quality of the chipset. My younger brother had a 4 MB unofficial card back in the day that was actually better than the official offerings - just as reliable with a far faster I/O. The sort of card that speedrunners would clamor for if playing a game that needs saves.
