    Hi guys,

I'm trying to buy a Wii from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1271085954&sr=8-1) and I'm planning on softmodding it.

But the problem is, I went through all the starters, hacking and modding guides but am still confused.

Is that console from the link applicable to the softmod shown in the guide on the sticky? Do I need to know anything else that is not on the guide?

Just keep in mind, you'll need to run games from a USB external drive!!!

If you're more Backup disc oriented then you should get an older Wii. The newer Wiis won't play back up discs and you'll be forced to load from USB loaders.

    eBay or GameStop, or Craigslist.

But there's also no good reason to use disc backups.. USB is faster, more convenient and hard drives are cheap nowadays.

    Not really.
A post that was updated 3/20/2010 did not convince me when today's date is 4/12/2010.
In my opinion, almost a month is enough to have some possible changes on anything related to Wii that might have caused for softmodding to be inapplicable and I might have missed especially when I'm new to this field.

I just wanted to make sure I'm updated with the latest, wise brains of GBAtempers.

well if it was out of date it wouldnt be stickied now would it......... and if everyone reccommends it, that means that it stays updated. I think they should change the sticky title to "if its a goddamn wii, use this" so i can post in threads like yours "is it a goddamn wii?"

You can always replace the drive...if you want to pay for another drive.

i don't use my drive for anything it all, it's an older Wii. I would be willing to part with it.
