We know what Tegra X1 is capable of, that's the chip inside Shield TV. It does about 500 GFlops on the high end, although 30% better than that compared to AMD architectures. It's a slightly stronger custom Tegra inside Switch, best guess 700-850 GFlops, about 1.1 TFlops relative to XB1's 1.3 TFlops. So slightly weaker than an XB1, but in a hybrid form factor like 1/10th the size.

    Worse than a Pascal?

And there never'll be any official communication about the power of the chip, god forbid Nintendo. They are doing what they always done best: showing stuff, gameplay, new ways of playing, not putting technical sheets in front of our eyes and yelling "here! You see? We have 340 teraflops of raw power, which is 45% stronger than any of our competitors. Please buy our system".

But for your information everything Xzi said is true, the last benchmarks on the dock for the console show 20% less raw power than a Xbone One, which is tremendous, taking into account the size of the console, and its handheld format

Like. We don't care. No one cares at ALL if it is better or worse than a Pascal. What kind of question is that? You compare the power of a Graphic card made for a PC, with all it has to take into account, and a console system?

And saying "worse than a pascal" doesnt mean a thing. Pascal GC range from the GTX 1050 to the 1080 Ti. A Maxwell 970 is more powerful than a Pascal 1050. So really no point asking that.

Guessing this is tongue-in-cheek, lol. Just about any full fat Pascal GPU blows all three consoles out of the water. Maxwell vs Pascal doesn't mean much though, it's just a 28nm vs 16nm form factor, and mobile Maxwell (Tegra) is 20nm.

    Inside your miiind, and poof.
But a Maxwell 950 is less powerful than a Pascal 1050, see why it's important?

It's not important. Comparing desktop-class GPUs to the architectures in consoles doesn't yield any relevant info. Relatively speaking, 1.1, 1.3, and 1.8 TFlops are all very close to the same power. Especially when you consider just about any mid-range gaming PC kicks out 8-10 TFlops these days.

No just tired of reading comments about people wanting to compare numbers and dicks. And if you said that scarcastically, I apologize in advance. But if you thought through with what you said, you are in for a treat. This kind of ideas of trying to compare the raw power of CPU and GPU never guaranteed that you will have a better playing experience. God, it doesn't even guarantee you that the game will be more beautiful. Some systems are really hard to make games in it, and drawing power from it can be very difficult.

And to reply to Jiehfeng, I'll ask you to no modify what I said, and what was said. He never specified models, He said "Pascal". That doesn't mean anything, like xzi said, it is just a difference in form factor. Like if i was comparing a BMW from today with one from 4 years ago, and by that alone, implying that every BMW from today will have more horsepower than any of for years ago, which is, of course, a false statement.

I don't care how tired you are, address others with respect.
(Can't apologise "in advance" after the deed, FYI).

I'm actually impressed with the hardware of the Switch, I'm just concerned about a couple points.

Respect? You are talking to me about respect? Listen boy, the only thing I said in my initial post, was the fact that you were asking a question without sense. You didn't try to compare with a specific model, your question wasn't "worse than a GTX 1070?" for example, which would be much more specific, even if wouldn't still, be relevant, because you would be comparing a PC GPU and a console one. I never insulted you or lacked respect in my first post.

And then you ask me if I am in my red period, and you come to my face and talk me about respect? Ok ok .

Too bad for you. Then you'd consider that, before ranting, you'd enquire. And as someone has pointed out, Maxwell and Pascal models are very different. I only concede that I didn't specify the Pascal model, and I am of course talking about the 1080.

Forget the GTX 1080, in the Uk a GTX 1060 costs £250. The switch costs £300.

The expectations people have of the switch are ridiculous.

They want Xbox One/PS4 level (around £200) graphical power or mid-end PC pascal graphical prowess (£250 minimum for GTX 1060 ... this is JUST the graphics card... 1080p high detail level performance, not even delving into 1070/1080) with iphone/ipad level build quality (both devices retail £500+ for their gorilla glass + phenomenal level of build quality, battery life and screen quality)....

    in a smaller form factor.

Then you all want to cry about the price.

I think Nintendo this refresh/gen should have just released a new 3DS with 720p screen see:switch and a new home console with above PS4/XBOX-one level graphical fidelity bundles with a pro-controller.

    xD

A PS4 does 1.8 TFlops. A mid-range gaming PC 8-10 TFlops. A GTX 1080 with a decent (modern i5 or better) CPU will get you up to like 20 TFlops relative to GCN. XB1 is 1.3 TFlops. Switch is 1.1 TFlops. Now you understand why it's pointless to compare high-end gaming CPUs to consoles?

I don't know why people even mention pascal graphics cards and try to compare them to the switch. Just try and buy a GTX 1080 and see how much it costs... then try to calculate the heat the thing will put out, the feasibility of it being portable....

We have people who aren't educated in PCs trying to argue about implimenting PC based technology into a very cheap (relatively) device which is portable.

You want GTX 1080 level graphical quality on the go... buy a gaming laptop and see that set you back £1500 or so pounds.

Here's what Switch can do: Switch can do 1080p high settings in certain engines (UE4 and Unity in particular). Switch has some hardware and API parity with PS4 and PC. Switch can do 1080p medium settings in other engines, and 720p low-mid settings in portable mode. That's all I expected of it.

You can never ever compare a PC to a console. The console will always lose.
