okay, so i am not so familiar with the psp series.

can anyone fill me out on:
  • are there any different types of psp games (a parallel is gb vs gbc vs gba)
  • if I go down and buy a psp 3000 at the store, what do i need to do to be able to play homebrew/backups or install a custom firmware?
  • how can I downgrade form firmware 6.10 to a prev. version?
  • what memory stick should i get (specs you recommend)
  • can anyone either answer me directly or link me to a topic or an off-site page?
  • do i need to hardmod a psp 3000 battery to get the custom firmware istalled? can i do this without a soldering iron?
  • will purchaced pandora batteries (from dealextreme, etc.) work on the psp 3000?
also, tell me anything else you think i should know.
much appreciated.

There's PSP 1000,2000,3000 and the Go!

If you buy 3000 at the store, you'd be wasting your money since you can't install custom firmware and you can run homebrew on only 1 firmware version.

You can downgrade from version 6.10 by using a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick(Only for PSP 1000 and 2000).

If you going to use homebrew you should get a minimum of a 2GB stick.

Again you can't hardmod a PSP 3000 yet, so its useless

Try getting a 1000 or 2000

Well, just adding. Even some 2000 are unhackable, the ones with the last motherboard (TA-088v3). Try to get a Daxter, GoW or Star Wars bundle if possible.

As for memory sticks, I'd get a PhotoFast CR-5400 and populate it w/ a couple of 8 gig or better SDHC's. I've got a couple myself and think every PSP owner should have one. :-)

yes you can with chickhen but every time you completly shut down your psp your cfw goes away
  • how can I downgrade form firmware 6.10 to a prev. version?
no you can't at the moment
  • what memory stick should i get (specs you recommend)
a photofast cr-5400 is a very good one us i also now on my psp and you can look in in dealextreme
  • can anyone either answer me directly or link me to a topic or an off-site page?
    www.dealextreme.com
  • do i need to hardmod a psp 3000 battery to get the custom firmware istalled? can i do this without a soldering iron?
i think the only way to put cfw in a psp 3000 is chickhen
  • will purchaced pandora batteries (from dealextreme, etc.) work on the psp 3000?
    no it won't

don't bother to buy a psp 3000 because it is not much difference then the 2000, and 2000 is easy to put cfw on it without pandora ( free )
much appreciated.

er... could someone enterpret it for me. sounds like a psp 3000 CAN be modded.

also, where is the best place to get a psp 2000 if i live in canada? ( i live in vancouver, bc) i would rather not get it shipped to be but... if its necessary, then i wouln't have a choice, would I?
is this a real psp?:

and by the way, where can i obtain a psp 2000? it seems as though they are obsolete.

lol i'm surprised this got replied to so quickly. i might as well be on irc ^^

.... Its CTF themes for PSP-3000 its not custom firmware, 3000 can't be fully modded yet.

Your most likely going to get a used 2000 since newer 2000 can't be hacked.

Yes it is an exploit found @ 5.03, but isn't compatible with new games for example, when you turn your psp off you will need to activate this exploit again and if you update your psp you will not use cfw at all. On PSP 1000/2000 you can even brick your PSP and bring it back with pandora battery.

Your just messing with us right? Seriously.... DOES NO ONE READ ANYTHING, or do we just post because we know how to upload an avatar and make a funny picture our signature. WTF. Poster, you drive me bananas.

1. Buy a PSP2000 if you want a workable hackable PSP
2. Install a pandora battery if no exploits are avail. for your current psp if the firmware is to high.
3. Install 5.50 GEN B2 CFW
4. PSP-hacks.com has legal homebrew and emulators
5. READ in-depth before u do anything, google is your friend.
6. Don't ask silly questions that have been ASKED A MILLION TIMES! Please not being a dick, but come on man.

if the psp has 5.00 M33-6 it's the newest CFW from Dark Alex. Dark Alex somewhat quit updating and hacking new firmwares, so GEN continued on with Dark Alex's code (source code) and helped to create 5.50 Gen B2, in order for you to play new games, you'll need to first not be a retard, and READ. READing before doing will help u out a lot. I'm not calling u a retard, but when u mess up ur PSP because u didnt fully read, then you'll be calling urself one.

(if you have 5.50 M33-6)
Install 5.50 Gen A
Install 5.50 Gen B
Install 5.5 Gen B2

All these are on psp-hacks.com

Use Yiro's decrypter to decrypt the new 5.50 and 6.00 games in order to play (this may be to much for you, so you can just the "D" word games that say "5.50gen-b" or "patched" or "5.00 M33-6", as long as you own the original games *wink wink*

This homebrew updates directly to 5.50 GEN-B2
